Re: Say you could rent a theater and see Alien or Close Encounters - what do you choose?

Alien is the superior movie to me, but I think that Close Encounters gains more by watching on the big screen. So I'd go with the latter.

That's a tough one for me between Raiders, Empire...

Re: Say you could rent a theater and see Alien or Close Encounters - what do you choose?

This was going to be my answer to the thread. I'd take 2001 over Alien and Close Encounters easily

Re: TV shows being edited for content due to social issues

Nothing? But as I understand it, people are worried about them removing the eps from the DVDs also, hence everyone scooping them up now.

How would you feel if the streaming sites removed all...

Re: TV shows being edited for content due to social issues

This is just ridiculous semantics.

Refusing to allow people to view it (legally) is essentially an attempt to erase it.

Re: Brave New World (Peacock) -- S: Alden Ehrenreich -- Based on the Book -- Premieres 7/15/20

That.... really doesn't look very good. And I'm a big fan of the book. I'd rather a talented director tackle the source material for a 2-3 hour feature, instead of a dragged out series.

Re: Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy vs. Nolan's Batman trilogy

I thought that Kirsten Dunst was serviceable, but to call her the highlight?

Alfred Molina was the one who stole the show in the trilogy.

Re: Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy vs. Nolan's Batman trilogy

I was going to say it but ddrknghtrtns beat me to it. Venom was never supposed to be in the movie per Raimi's original vision, we can thank studio interference for that. And yeah, he made for a...

Re: 30 Rock -- New 1 hour special coming to NBC -- 7/16/20

Yes? I think that the problem of destroying literature/film/music in the form of censorship is a very valid concern.

Re: 30 Rock -- New 1 hour special coming to NBC -- 7/16/20

While we're at it, we should ban every film that depicts women in a sexist light (i.e. 75% of films before 1960).

Re: Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy vs. Nolan's Batman trilogy

The best superhero film isn't a part of either of these trilogies. ;)

Re: Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy vs. Nolan's Batman trilogy

I think it's an unfulfilling mess. Way too much shit packed into one movie, over the top action sequences, less compelling characters and less character development in general. I don't think Bane was...

Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy vs. Nolan's Batman trilogy

I thought this would be a fun comparison. Which do you prefer and why?

To me, they both undergo a similar quality arc. Part one is the flawed but ambitious and exciting setup. Part two is the...

I haven't seen that move in years. You've convinced me to give it a rewatch.

Re: Actors & Auteurs whose films you've liked progressively less (or more)

How about Rob Reiner? Had a really nice string going from This Is Spinal Tap through Misery. The American President came out in 1995 and was good. Everything he's done since has been dogshit.

Re: Actors & Auteurs whose films you've liked progressively less (or more)

Ridley Scott started out with an absolutely amazing one-two punch with Alien and Blade Runner, but has been uninspiring for decades now, Thelma & Louise being his last great film. Even his more...

Re: Which next-generation video game console design do you like better?

A billion others? A billion people haven’t even bought an Xbox One, not even close....

I like the PlayStation brand better because it has better exclusives. There’s not much more to it than that.

Re: Knives Out (2019, W/D: Rian Johnson) S: Craig, Evans, Curtis, Collette, Shannon, Stanfield, de Armas

I really enjoyed the heck out of this movie. Saw it on the morning of January 1st this year and thought it would be ushering in a great new year / decade. How wrong I was. :(

Re: Best Michael Bay Movie?

I actually like Pain & Gain, I think the hardcore, ultra violent style of that one fits well with his trademark 'Bayhem'.
