The Election 2020 Results Discussion Thread

I was watching at a bar in Vegas in 2016. So I might go to Vegas, Was planning on going to Denver the weekend before, so might stay there for the election. Otherwise, likely a local bar as it looks like Iíll be working from home for a couple weeks.

I have a feeling this could be like a football game. With people not only following their own state results, but following the handful of ďswing statesĒ.

Was talking to a friend and they say they plan on taking off the afternoon and stay locked up at home. That no way they will be going out. Maybe Iím naive, but Iím not thinking the zombie apocalypse is coming regardless of who wins.

So? Where are you watching and are you planning anything?

(I donít see how talking about results wonít get political, but if a mod wants to move this to Other, Iím fine with that)

I'm not going to a bar to watch the results. I don't want to get Covid.

I'm just watching at home.

Not sure, but I imagine I'll probably be moving from place to place during the two months it takes for the dust to settle.

You mean, on election night itself? Probably Twitter, while live-tweeting analysis as the results come in.

We'll be at home, watching something streaming, while I monitor AP/Reuters/BBC/538/etc on my phone.

And stacking mags.

I wouldn't be watching this kind of thing at a bar in the best of times. Now? No fucking way. (plus I quit drinking anyway, so what fun would I have at a bar? )

In 2016, I watched at my usual Tuesday bar (Tuesday -- pre-COVID -- is trivia night most weeks). Also present in the bar was a Wellesley alumnae association. They did not have a good night.

This year, I'll watch from home. In late August, I decided to take a break from drinking and election night seems like the perfect night to end that break, so I will pick up a nice bottle of whiskey beforehand.

In a perfect world, I would be watching this from Sweden, Norway, or Finland...

I'll be at home and I'll go to bed at the usual time. I'll probably check the television for a few minutes before bed. It's not fun anymore.

Besides, with all the mail-in votes, and all the underhanded tactics planned by the Republicans, the counts won't all be determined for days.

Possibly. I know we are 13 days out, and a lot can change (but I donít see it changing like it did for HRC), there are a handful of states that if Biden wins, itís pretty much over. Now, it it stays close, yea, I could see some states reporting later.

I will do everything in my power to avoid any TV coverage of the election. I'll keep track via folks like David Muir on Twitter.

That's too cute. Assuming we'll have election results on election day.

I'll be watching something else.

It's "possible" if TX flips.

ideally from a bunker with a 2 or 3 month supply of food and water. I really hope things do not get ugly but this has me nervous.

Any sane person should be at least a bit nervous. On the news today, I read that the Canadian government is readying contingency plans for the border, etc. due to the uncertainty of what might happen after the US election. In my fifty plus years I have never heard the government make anything close to this type of statement, so that kind of validates my concerns a tad.

As a Texan, I do think still a long shot we flip. Possible? Yes, but I’d say I’d still give Texas to Trump. But don’t think that helps him all that much. My fantasy team includes Florida, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin. North Carolina and probably Arizona. IMO if Biden wins 3-4 it’s over early. Wins 2-3 likely still over early. Not sure Trump needs a sweep, but it stays close if he gets 4-5 of them.

If Texas doesn’t flip, will be interesting to see how close. We have have been moving left for a long time and think it continues.

re: The Election 2020 Results Discussion Thread

I planned to take the next day off to watch live coverage (and thus skipping the night due to the time difference), but I found out that I have some mandatory, full-day training schedule at work the day after. So, I'll probably be in bed, checking my phone through the night, getting just enough rest.

If I could watch it at my local cinema (as I watched at least one debate in 2016), I would.

Hopefully I won't be burying my face in a pillow at 2 AM after I look at the Breaking News on my phone like in 2016
