That this is close is disgusting. We've officially become a shithole country.

I think that's something the Republicans have done an incredible job of over the past few decades - making it so people don't see the Dems as simply "the other side", but as the enemy. That bolsters their base and brings in undecideds who favor "strong" positions. The Dems pretend to do the same thing, but don't actually put any muscle behind it, so they can only manage surge victories like Obama, but they can't keep steady holds.

If he loses either of them (and loses PA), Biden's goose is cooked. Winning MI and WI still leaves several paths open, but all of them are very slim and likely to lead to weeks of legal wrangling and possible SCOTUS involvement. A slim Biden victory that gets overturned by a stacked SCOTUS is actually kind of a worst-case scenario, frankly. The amount of disorder (and violence) that such an outcome would usher in will be stupendous and this, ultimately, will strengthen Trump's hand.

In that scenario we will have moved into dictator status. No different than Russia or China. I feel really bad for our allies in the world. They will be on their own.

So Biden can lose PA and win but not WI and MI right? Even with AZ? What are the chances the mail in ballots change the outcome? Assuming that the Republicans don’t have them thrown out.

He'll need to win one, MI looks like it could be closer, but the odds are still on Biden imo. Either way, Biden could be meaningless if republicans can hang on to the Senate.

If BoJo gets tossed out in the UK (or more likely continues to tack left to keep his job), what significant first world democratic leader that is even remotely friendly to Trump is left?

The good news for PA is that the reported counts out of Philly and Allegheny County (Pittsburgh) are still very low. That is a shitload of Biden votes that have not yet been counted. The 42% or so that have reported are mostly skewed towards more rural counties.

The numbers out of Wayne County, MI, on the other hand, are depressing. Biden only has a modest lead there so far.

Correct. He has to win two states of the PA-WI-MI trio along with Arizona.

BUT if he loses both WI and MI, then PA will probably be out of reach, too.

So I'm following the election on CNN.

So from what I gather, Trump is basically winning every state he won in 2016. If Biden can't turn one of those high EC states that voted for Trump, he's screwed.

So based on NYT projected winners right now, Biden has 209. Assuming he loses Ohio and PA (and likely IA the way this night is going), he needs to get 51 electoral college votes from somewhere. Here is what is left where his odds are still good:

MI - 16
WI - 10
MN - 10
AZ - 11
ME - 4
HI - 4
NV - 6

All that adds up to only 61. If he loses MI only, he loses. If he loses WI only, he only hits 270 on the nose.

Finally, some good news.

But this is the red mirage we were warned about. MI and PA are counting ED votes first. We’re not going to have a winner tonight.

All of the heavily populated counties in Ohio are 80%+ reported and Trump still has almost an 8 point lead. Ohio is done.

So AZ is a pretty big turn. So Biden badly needs one of these: PA, MI or WI?

I'm going to bed. I expect Trump's lawyers to be filing lawsuits as soon as the courts open tomorrow in PA. Great job America.

It is, so far, the only swing state that has gone Biden's way tonight.

Re: The Election 2020 Results Discussion Thread

Biden was never going to win Ohio. I've been telling y'all that for weeks.

Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania wont report fully until later this week. My assumption is still that Biden will win, but that Republicans will keep the Senate (which I've assumed all along). Get ready for four years of absolutely nothing getting done...

Re: The Election 2020 Results Discussion Thread

There is still hope in PA since most of the Trump heavy counties have fully reported but there are still around a million ballots left to report near Philly which could be 75% Biden votes
