I feel bad for people trying to cancel flights. I've got a friend who was on the phone for 4.5 hours yesterday, unsuccessfully trying to talk to someone to cancel. 1.5 hours so far this morning and still on hold ...

At this point it should just be a click of a button on their websites. Ridiculous to make people stay on hold for any significant length of time.

My cruise at the end of May isn't looking too good. Princess just suspended cruises for now (along with Viking). I have another cruise later this year in December.. hopefully this will all be over by then.

Hopefully but there is the possibility of it or a mutated sprain to re-emerging. The world can not go back to status quo when this is over.

The mayor just shut down all events with over 1,000 people. So much for Planet Comic-con. Earlier today, all the local St. Patrick's Day parades were cancelled.

On a side note I've been seeing people hoping Corona kills the Cruise Ship Industry for good. I even have a 40 something yo FB friend who's says he's been preaching the "Evils" of the industry for 10+ years.

I had no idea people hated that industry so much.

Meanwhile I have other young FB friends taking advantage of this and booking cheap tickets for seemingly ALL Travel Industries.

On the phone now at work, on hold with a supplier, and the hold music is The Smith's "Every Day is Like Sunday", exactly when he sings "come armageddon come armageddon", sounding strangely ominous right now.

The issue with that is they'll likely be fine if they get sick, but can spread it to people who won't. It's about slowing and spreading out cases over time to prevent overwhelming hospitals. We need to listen to the healthcare providers in Italy who warned us about how bad it is.

re: COVID-19 POLITICAL Thread

I work in public relations at a utility. While there are no reported cases in our area, we are already taking extra precautions, establishing contingency plans, etc. Busy time. Things are so crazy right now.

I've gotten into arguments on Facebook with people recently. I usually keep my mouth shut, but I'm getting tired of people blaming the media for people's panic. They're just reporting. I haven't seen any legitimate news outlet telling people to stockpile toilet paper or quit eating Chinese. I actually had one person tell me that they shouldn't be reporting on it since it tends to be only fatal to certain people. Do people realize how diseases work? I guess not since our president thought to handle it the same way as illegal immigration. If anything, social media likely contributed more than anything, but that's not as good of a narrative as blaming the media.

It's also frustrating that we don't have as full of a picture of what's really going on in the United States since testing is so limited. Trump might well have bought a little time with the travel bans, but he should have used that time to prepare and ensure there was a system (and tests!) in place to get a handle on things. If you only test in the most severe cases, of course we will have a lower number than other countries. It also means that it's harder for us to get an accurate morality rate for the disease. It's really a mess right now.

Oh, don't be so cynical. It would all depend on who the children were buying the air from.

Key: members were floored as they learned that roughly just 11,000 Coronavirus tests TOTAL have been conducted compared to the fact that in South Korea, 10,000 tests are conducted A DAY.
This is the USA.

The healthcare industry needs to figure out how to maximize profits from the pandemic before they formulate a response.

This is the maddening aspect of this.

Yeah, YOU may be thirty years old, and if you catch COVID-19, it might present in you as little more than a mild cold. But you're also going to be a carrier and spread it to your parents and grandparents when you get back. And give it to your friends, who can then pass it along to their parents and grandparents. Just because YOU may only get a mild case of the virus doesn't mean the twenty other people you pass it on to will also only get a mild case of the virus. It might kill your BFF who has a compromised immune system or other vulnerability.
