Saw that the other day. That has to be one of the best campaign ads ever.

With the exception of Rubio who lives in the forever 49-48 battleground of Florida, all those people are Red State Senator's. Nationalizing the race and tying them directly to Trump probably isn't the best way to beat most of them. Like if Trump fell down to 33% approval nationally he would probably be at 50+ still in Oklahoma

So registration deadlines are imminent in the upcoming days or weeks.

Check your status, or register to vote online, here:

The off year elections are on November 5th, 2019 (and every odd year!).

Nope for the Wisconsin election. It has to be changed.

Although it's not the reason, it's probably just as well since the primary was set for the ridiculous day of Monday, December 30.

Felons have their right to vote permanently stripped away, but a change in leadership could change that.

Okay, that's what I was thinking but it's worded poorly. He means "4% of Kentucky's adult population" and not the entire country. I thought that sounded odd.

I would like to see both things happen (Beshear & voting rights restored) but even if 100% of that 4% turned out for Democrats, it would barely put a dent in this red state.

Thanks goodness. I've seen her many times. Everyone around here who knows her knew this had no chance of lasting. She was a train wreck but the Democratic party lavished her with money and a good campaign manager.

She'll be replaced by Steve Knight when it all shakes out.

There are elections all over the country, including Kentucky, Virginia, New Jersey, and Texas! Check your registration status here.If you're in line when the poll is closing down, they must allow you to vote.

Re: The One and Only 2020 Downballot Races Thread

I voted this morning, but only to support a referendum on school funding. Literally every municipal office in our area is a Republican running uncontested and I currently refuse to vote for any member of that party. So, it was yes on page one and then two pages of items left blank. I checked past election results and it looks like some of our city council get in with only a couple hundred votes, so Iím kind of tempted to run for a seat in 2023.

Anyway, weíre still on wholly electronic voting machines and despite being a Ďminorí election, the id requirement was ramped up. In recent years, Iíve just briefly shown it and signed in where Iím listed in the roll they have printed out. This time, they scanned it, made me read something about fraud and then had me sign a form on an iPad affirming my identity. It wasnít too onerous, but did come off as weird and I can see it causing problems in an election with high turnout.

Interesting, since we're having elections for mayor, city council, and the school board, and there are zero Republicans running for any of those. (Technically, only the mayoral election is partisan, but everyone knows who has what affiliation anyway.)

I voted my first straight party ticket today. Thanks Trump!

Hopefully Bevin is gone, but this is KY so I have my doubts.

As good a place as any to comment that it's some fucking bullshit that the polls close at 6:00 pm in Kentucky.

Also, via Twitter I was informed that I received a write-in vote for mayor.

:
All the more reason to make it a federal holiday and have a national standard when it comes to opening/closing times and voting methods.

Christ. We have a school board vote today and a vote on a levy to increase funding to the schools through raising property taxes a bit (which I voted for - I will always support giving money to schools) and I literally told them my name and address and signed next to my entry in the book. Which is all that should be required.

Yup, just found my name in the voter rolls, and I voted at 6:30 this morning. 6AM to 8PM are the election hours for all of NJ.

Yeah, that was all that was required in my state until Republican leadership "fixed" the voting system. Somehow in all the years that the system was simply showing up to the right polling location and giving your name, I was never informed that I'd already voted. I must have lucked out that none of the millions of fraudulent voters picked my name to use.

I think it's such a simple (and effective) system that Republican leaders can't help but think there is abuse (I'm guessing because they would happily abuse it). Of course, they can't FIND any abuse.

Re: The One and Only 2020 Downballot Races Thread

I did 'early voting' after work on Friday, and there were pretty long lines. There were no elected offices being voted on, but there are several state amendments being considered and a school bond election. It was the last few hours of early voting, so the long line was not too surprising.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that our voting machines were different this time. We've had the electronic-only machines for a long time. No paper printout at all. But this time your choices on the electronic machine were printed onto a paper that you then fed into a different machine that scans and records your vote. And, presumably, the paper ballots are kept in case a recount or audit is needed.
