Yep. Again I say good for her for saying no to that shitbag and not letting him get his way. He wants to make a speech? He can open the government back up.

Oh honey, Buzzfeed was days ago, everyone else has moved on since then, don't you know that's how things work now?

Of course, many were quick to point out this book came out in February of 2017. Maybe it took that long to publish a “pictures only” version the President could understand.

Boy, at least two more years of this, huh?

Not sure what the Buzzfeed story has to do with this thread. They aren't doing layoffs because of the Cohen story, their doing them because regurgitating content from Reddit isn't exactly a sustainable business model.

It was a brutal day in media all around. Gannett laid off a bunch of people too across papers all over the country (and I know of at least a few at USA TODAY, although I'm not sure how hard they were hit overall), and that's following a round of early retirement offers. Verizon slashed their media staff across AOL, Yahoo, and HuffPost.

Let's cut off their access to their bank accounts for one month and see how they manage. They wouldn't. They also know they have more money to pay off the unnecessary interest charges than the average working man.

that's pretty good. I sure wish I could be alive in 50+ years to see what history has to say about Kelly Anne Conway!

I'd think that would be a fairly simple function of their payroll systems. I do wonder what happens when the Trump Shutdown last for months and it starts getting really messy with people quitting and getting other jobs but still owed backpay. And honestly, I'd be hesitant to even go back to my government job knowing that Trump and Co. will pull this shit again the next time they don't get their way.

It's almost like this isn't worth it but hey, King Trump needs his monument.

^ I skimmed through it, and I'm free to being proven wrong on this, but it seems like his request boilw down to "America needs your help... so come help improve the civil discourse so we can get the stuff Trump wants."

“I’m a supporter of the current president. But this is a bigger picture,” he said. “We need infrastructure, bridges, roads. Wars all over the world, and our military is about spent. We need to negotiate and fix health care. We need security on the border.”

The same system that kept track of it when they were being paid.

And when the shutdown ends they will be paid for all the days they weren’t paid. People seem to forget that a lot.

Re: Official Trump Presidency Thread, Part 3

Yeah, it was this section that made me think that.
In a letter delivered to Barack Obama and George W. Bush and posted online Tuesday, Jones called for the former presidents to tour the country and help repair civil discourse amid political and social turmoil, which he said was emblematic in the government shutdown and fierce rhetoric over immigration.“Recent news reports and events occurring around the country are widely creating civil unrest among the American citizens. The extreme divide between our Democrats and Republican parties needs to be rectified,” Jones wrote. He continued: “The country needs the two of you to show the American people that our political parties can get along even if opinions differ. We are a great nation with a history of great leaders. The people need to hear from you. America needs your help.”
It just seemed like that was heading towards what I said. I guess it really depends what he specifically means by "fix health care" and "security at the border" because those are nebulous things that everyone has a different opinion of. It's better when people are clear on their intent.

Actually, these companies are making money, including Buzzfeed. The "problem" is that they didn't hit the unreasonable target that they had projected the year before. For example Buzzfeed made in 2018 between $280-$300 million dollars, up from $250 in 2017. The problem is that the top executives had projected to make $350 million, so instead of being happy with having a healthy profit, instead they had to fire 8% of the workforce. This is the deregulated, capitalistic 'Merica that Trump supporters voted for.
