Re: Official Trump Presidency Thread, Part 2

In August, Graham seemed OK with getting rid of Sessions, though he said it'd have to be after midterms, which it is now.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...fter-elections

The pivotal message on Thursday came from Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, who oscillates between criticizing many of the presidentís policies and defending a president who sometimes invites him to go golfing at a Trump-branded resort.

ďThe presidentís entitled to an attorney general he has faith in, somebody thatís qualified for the job, and I think there will come a time, sooner rather than later, where it will be time to have a new face and a fresh voice at the Department of Justice,Ē Graham told reporters.

But he added that forcing out Sessions before November ďwould create havocĒ with efforts to confirm Trumpís Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, as well as with the midterm elections on Nov. 6 that will determine whether Republicans keep control of Congress.

Maoists? Stop reading the propaganda. Thereís no one in the Democratic Party, not even in the new wave of this freshman class in the House, who are anywhere close to a Maoist. Is universal healthcare an extremist position? How about living wages? These are ideas that many Americans support, and will never ever be enacted by the GOP.

Right now, Trump has a narrative. Itís racist and nativist, but itís clear and he and the GOP stick to it. The only way that Dems make positive gains in 2020 is to craft their own opposing narrative, a positive narrative, one that isnít simply anti-Trump. They need to focus on the working class and improving their material conditions. That requires moving to the left, not the center. That is the way they win in 2020. If itís between Trump and the center, last night should prove that the center wonít hold.

ACLU statement on Sessions:

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) executive director Anthony D. Romero, on the other hand, issued a statement condemning Sessions as “the worst attorney general in modern American history.”

“He was an egregious violator of civil rights and civil liberties. From his plot to deport Dreamers, remove police and law enforcement accountability, discriminate against trans people, perpetuate and expand senseless enforcement of racist drug laws, use of religion to discriminate against LGBTQ people and undermine reproductive rights, abandon protections for women against violence, and even lie to the Senate to cover up Trump campaign contact with Russian officials, his tenure as the highest chief law enforcement officer was a complete disgrace to our nation’s constitutional protections,” Romero wrote. “Sessions allowed the Department of Justice to function as the political arm of the Trump administration to undo fundamental rights that protect each of us, disregarding years of legal precedent and settled law.”

He vowed maintain “a close watch” on Mueller’s investigation going forward “and the impact of the appointment of a new Attorney General.”

“The Senate must demand that any nominee for attorney general must commit to not interfere in the special counsel investigation, and continue to have Robert Mueller operate under the special counsel regulation,” Romero’s statement said.
at the last line about the Senate

Here's the latest RW talking point. Acosta accosted this woman by not letting her grab the mic from him. Does anyone see him pushing her away?

Unless he confirmed by the Senate, an AG isn't going to be able to do shit, right? Not that trump will have trouble getting his now more powerful Senate to confirm his pick, he still has to go through the process, and unless someone has gone through the Senate process, they shouldn't even be able to supervise Mueller, much less cut his budget and tell him what to do.

What propaganda? The leaders of the Democratic party have nothing to do with Maoists. They aren't communists. I'm concerned about a possible future Democrats allowing their extremist fringe drag them too far to the left.

In 2004, would you have imagined that the party of Bush and Cheney would have made a giant leap farther right?

I'd rather that the Democratic party didn't get into bed with the anti-capitalists.

The guyís not out of office five minutes and weíre already trying to rehabilitate him? Heís a racist troll who diligently used his position to discriminate. The fact that he took his job seriously is all the more reason to hate him.
I wrote without thinking. I'm going to back off that statement about Sessions smelling good. But he did do one good thing: he had Mueller's back.
