He has no idea, because he's a fucking idiot, but trump here admits to committing a felony...

What he says he did is much worse than what he's trying to deny!

If they were to make a move they would wait until Trump has served two years. That way Pence could serve out the rest of the term and still run for President two more times. If he were to win he could sever close to ten years as President.

If Trump were to tragically die in a tanning bed accident today Pence could only serve out the rest of this term and run for one additional term.

Doesn't appear to be any actual verification of that just yet. There are reports that he used a fake ID and SSN to pass the background checks which is what his "legal" status would have been based on.

If he made the payments himself at the time there wouldn't be anything illegal about it. A candidate can pay for their entire campaign if they want... there's no restrictions on them.

He didn't actually make any payments until 2017 though, so at best he reimbursed the illegal campaign contribution after the fact.

No, because he didn't report them. So now, they would be considered UNREPORTED campaign donations (multiple ones) which is why they're multiple felonies, making it worse.

This is going to boil down to why he made the payments when he did. Trump has paid off people his whole life to keep quiet. These affairs were years ago. Why wait until just before the election? If it was in order to bury the story to keep it from voters, that's a crime regardless of where the money came from.
Trump's side may argue it was to keep it from his wife.
Why wait until just before the election?
This will never get resolved without a smoking gun. There needs to be a tape or email of Trump saying something that ties the payments to the election. Otherwise we'll just go round and round over why he made the payments when he did.

I'm sure there's plenty of people who would pay money to anyone who they think could help bring down Trump

You're teasing me, but I'll answer anyway.

If Trump had committed clear-cut treason, would you be in favor of a military show trial that finished before anyone got hungry, immediately followed by a firing squad for him and his wife? That's what happened to Ceausescu.

First, Trump is merely a corrupt politician, not a murderous despot. Second, the rule of law still works in this country, unlike Romania under the communists. Third, the only people who supported Ceausescu was the military who suppressed the populace. When the army no longer supports a dictator, he's screwed, because the army is terribly good at abrupt actions.

Sometimes the generals are genuine good guys, and hold honest elections after they've taken over the government. Sometimes they simply move in and get rich. Are you feeling lucky? Because once the military make their move, you don't have any say in what happens next.

Yeah, he'd probably get away with it under a jury of 12 because a good lawyer could cloudy up the waters the way Trump tried (and failed) to today, but in the court of public opinion, which will impact the House and Senate, maybe not.

Personally, I don't see this event as bringing him down on its own, but it could be a big factor that helps to erode his support. Or more likely, not. It's very clear he's full of it, but that's been clear on any number of matters.

Like I was saying...

Not that the GOP will care enough to do anything about it.
Hey, maybe we should have a policing force that isn't the actual party policing itself?

Re: Official Trump Presidency Thread, Part 2

More bullshit distractions. I hope one of the tortures they give this spineless orange asshole in prison is to blast the anthem 24/7 on his cell.

President Donald Trump launches petition against ESPN's 'spineless' national anthem policy

With just weeks to go before the NFL’s regular season, President Donald Trump once again has the national anthem on his mind. Trump started a petition urging people to denounce ESPN’s “spineless” national anthem policy.

President Donald Trump starts petition against ESPN national anthem policy

Trump sent out the petition Wednesday in an email. It reads:

“Friend,
Just after we heard a sitting governor trash America, ESPN has now decided it will no longer play the National Anthem before Monday Night Football.
If “America” is too offensive for anyone in our country, then what are they doing in America?
I’m calling on you to join me in denouncing this SPINELESS surrender to the politically correct liberal mob.
I was the first person to sign this petition. Now I need you to follow me lead and be the second.”
Under the message, the email contains an area where people can sign their name to the petition.

Is ESPN no longer playing the national anthem before Monday Night Football?

ESPN is returning to an old company policy and not televising the national anthem before NFL games are played during the upcoming season. The network showed the national anthem three times last season.

ESPN isn’t the only channel that won’t air the national anthem before NFL games

Other networks have decided to adopt a similar policy this season, according to USA Today. Fox Sports has reportedly decided to only air the national anthem during special broadcasts — like Veterans Day. NBC Sports said the network hadn’t finalized any plans yet.

A CBS Sports spokesperson told USA Today that the network has no plans to air the anthem before broadcasts. That’s not a new policy for them, however. CBS Sports has not aired the national anthem in past years.

President Donald Trump continues crusade against ESPN and the NFL about the national anthem

This is far from the first time Trump has taken on ESPN or the NFL. He’s made players kneeling during the national anthem a major talking point, and has critical of both players and NFL executives.

ESPN has also been a frequent target for Trump. He feuded with network personality Jemele Hill, and has taken shots at ESPN on Twitter.

That was Newt's big talking point too. He says that Mollie's name will work better to drive voters than Cohen/Manafort this November. And hell, he might be right.

Re: Official Trump Presidency Thread, Part 2

You guys keep insistng that trump don't get shook - he sounds shook as fuck here!

‘How Did We End Up Here?’ Trump Wonders as the White House Soldiers On

But this time, advisers noticed that the president, a man who has in the past relished the idea of leading his troops into political battle, seemed subdued. He appeared to realize the serious nature of what had just taken place, and yet his relative calm — contrasted with his more typical lashing out when he is anxious — unnerved some of his aides.

“We started with collusion,” the president mused, according to several people who witnessed Mr. Trump’s somber mood. “How did we end up here?”
Shouldn't have fired Comey, sweetie.

November? Give me a fucking break! They'll forget her name by this weekend, that is, if they even knew it, instead of "white girl killed by illegal brown man". Meanwhile Cohen/Mnafort still have more trials coming up through the rest of the year, well into and past the elections - they're gonna be fucking evergreen.
