Look like he was forced to read what his staff wrote for him after that disastrous news conference with Putin.

Special counsel Robert Mueller asks for immunity for five potential witnesses in Paul Manafort trial
https://www.cnbc.com/2018/07/17/muel...fort-case.html

Special counsel Robert Mueller is asking a judge to grant immunity from prosecution for five potential witnesses at the upcoming federal criminal trial of former Trump campaign chief Paul Manafort, according a a court filing Tuesday.
Mueller has also asked U.S. District Court Judge T.S. Ellis to seal the court motions detailing the witnesses, filings show.
Manafort is due to start his trial in Alexandria, Va., federal court on July 25. He is currently being held in a jail in that city after having his $10 million bond revoked last month after Mueller asked him of trying to tamper with potential witnesses at his trials.
(I think that's supposed to say "accused him of trying to tamper...")

Hmm. When will the witch hunt end?

But yeah, I can very easily picture Trump doing exactly what you've described. I think re-election could readily be in his grasp if he wanted it, but it's a near-guarantee that he'd die in office, given his age and how poorly he takes care of himself. He'd be 78 and just a few months from his 79th birthday by the time he'd hand the reins over to his successor. Easier to just say "we did it! America is great again!" after one term and live out his remaining years on his terms.
I see it happening that way too. It's sort of like that early Simpsons episode where Bart was regularly beating Homer at the boxing video game. Homer then pays another kid to tutor him, and the next time they play, once Bart sees he is losing he triumphantly retires with an undefeated record.

No, I know. I just thought the idea of Trump accomplishing his goals was too funny to refrain from drawing the comparison.

Wow, the would/wouldn't thing is ridiculous. The casual way he said "I don't see why it would have been them" and then shrugged doesn't even make sense with the word "wouldn't".

Big man changing his words now that his boss isn't sitting next to him. Only the best negotiator.

Manafort is really being treated unfairly. You know...like Capone.

And that's all he had to do. Crisis over, on to the next one. Seriously, it's done. Repubs won't say another word. They'll just point to this and say "he misspoke, you've never mispoken anything??" and that's it.

Re: Official Trump Presidency Thread, Part 2

Now that Trump has reversed his position, will the ones who stood with him, like Rand Paul, also reverse theirs?

Also, now Trump has to stop complaining about the Mueller investigation, and stop claiming it is a witch hunt.

Yep. Ryan said "It's clear that it didn't have a material effect on our election" in regards to Russia tampering. Nothing to see here...

So it's like how he droned some scripted words following his initial response to Charlottesville, and his supporters could then say "See! He denounced white supremacism!"

Did he list ever time he "misspoke"?

I misspoke when asked if I'd hold Russia responsible for attacking our election and I accidentally said "I hold us both responsible"

I misspoke when I even brought up Putin's very strong denials of election tampering.

I guess I probably didn't need to say "The U.S. has been very foolish."

Jesus...

He's so fucking annoying with the way he gets stuck on something - it's like other old people I've known, skirting with senility. Also with the misspelling. Fucking moron.

*edit - JINX - again!!!

It's already been reported that moronic statement was crafted by his crack national security team.

President of the United States is a racist and Putin's stooge.

Just out of Trump’s Putin remarks do-over in the Cabinet Room. Lol. I'd love to see the line he crossed out. An actual sharp rebuke of Putin? An offer to put sanctions in place?

Yep. I suggested this would simmer until Thursday... maybe Friday. So we'll have 2-3 more days before another crisis is manufactured to put a period on this.

But he didn't misspeak. One of Trump's initial arguments against Russian interference in our election process was that why would the Russians want him to get elected? He's pro military! If anything, they'd want Hillary who wants to cut military spending!

Plus, by admitting that Russia wanted him to get elected, it makes him look like a puppet. It puts the validity of his win into question. He couldn't even admit he lost the popular vote.

Re: Official Trump Presidency Thread, Part 2

Future scenario:

Trump "If Russia invades another country I wouldn't do anything"

Next day (after the invasion)

Trump: "I meant to say would"
