It's funny how the GOP said that Obama had set race relations back 50 years. Hell no. Trump has done that. Every single day. He has given then green light to all his supporters, including Roseanne, to be racist without the idea consequences and repercussions. And now, even worse, all the racist assholes are using "whataboutisms" to defend Roseanne. They are all now, "what about The View?, what about Bil Maher? what about Joy Behar? what about Whoopie Goldberg? " Like if anything any of them have ever said compares to the racist bullshit that Trump, Roseanne and their supporters spew on a daily basis.
Yeah, after watching MSNBC and CNN throughout the day, I'm convinced some memo must've been sent out to EVERY conservative commentator telling them that every time the Roseanne story is brought up, they have to go "But...Bill Maher? But...Jay Behar?...But...rap music????" WTF? Seriously, CNN just had like the fourth commentator of the day bring up Bill Maher...They're totally different things...Maher made a shitty joke (once!)...Roseanne had an extensive history of making racist and Islamaphobic tweets...And remember when she tweeted about "Pizzagate"? She's an ignorant idiot...Somehow arguing and deflecting that Bill Maher is equally bad is the new Republican talking point...Still waiting for someone on CNN or MSNBC to FORCEFULLY call them out when they try and argue that...Don Lemon actually did a decent job last night but should've been much, much angrier when that Carrie Sheffield chick kept trying to get those talking points through...She was worst at the end where she brought up Eminem and said how his music is misogynistic and she said liberals applaud him...Newsflash: Have you ever listened to hip-hop??? Do you think everything people rap about is literal??? She sounds like the type of person that would've blamed comic books in the '50s for violence...

I wish Jon Stewart was still running the Daily Show, as tonight's episode would've had a giant montage of the same Republicans making the EXACT SAME talking points over and over again, as if there wasn't some sort of coordination behind it...Jesus...it's just so blatant...

At this rate Mueller probe will never end because every 5 minutes Trump commits another crime for him to investigate. It's like a Ponzi scheme as a legal defense strategy.

Maher is a funny comparison since ABC fired him for saying something controversial years ago.

So the NYT (which I just bought a digital subscription of), is willing to post a correction when called out (and they recheck to deter they were initially wrong.

Nice...guess they did learn from Trump on all those times he corrected himself after a mista.......oh for Christ sake I can’t even finish typing it....

Surprised Jason Miller didn't join in on the idiocy that was being displayed...Paris Dennard will remain one of the dumbest people on the planet...Again, Anderson Cooper, why don't you step in and call bullshit? Heh, a friend of mine runs a forum similar to this and can always spot returning banned members due to their use of similar phrasing, cadence, etc. There is no way Trump wasn't involved in writing this.

I just keep wondering if Trump is simply showing brazen and total contempt for the American public, or if he’s a senile idiot.

Conclusion: both!

Periods, bro, periods! Like, just one, they're called sentences!

That said, to respond to your comment, I hesitate to defend Bill Maher, since I just got my first ever forum ban on the internet over on resetera last week. Because in far-lefty world, apparently if you don't agree that Bill Maher trying to talk politely to that Milo Yania-whatever-olis asshole and cracking a trans bathroom joke makes him a transphobe and non-ally of LGBTQ folks, you're a transphobic apologist. Oh and he's a racist too, don't forget that, because he made a bad racist joke once.

Oh wait, I'm straying back to thoughts of forum moderation again, sorry.

Maher fucks up sometimes and puts his foot in it, like a lot of comedians, but he isn't consistently a racist asshole like Roseanne has been. She was lucky to get the gig considering her history. I mean, the buzz about her history of stupid racist shit on twitter and the Hitler photo shoot was already out there. She was lucky to get the reboot considering that stuff already floating about. You think she would play it a bit safer. But like Trump, she just couldn't keep her mouth shut and keep the racist thoughts inside.

Does trump not understand that there are rules for other people, and that Sessions has to actually play by them or it'll be his ass?
As much of a shitty racist Session is, even he understands rules and laws that trump never will.

Good thing some Republicans stood up to trump, telling him in secret that if he removes Sessions, they will never confirm his next pick. At least they have some balls.

Title: Jimmy Kimmel Under Fire For Saying Roseanne Barr Could Use Some Compassion and Help

What @TheRealRoseanne said is indefensible, but angrily attacking a woman who is obviously not well does no good for anyone. Please take a breath and remember that mental health issues are real. The Roseanne I know could probably use some compassion and help right now.

Stormy Daniels' Lawyer Withdraws From Cohen Case; Judge Admonishes Him for "Publicity Tour"

Excerpt:

But Wednesday’s hearing revolved, in part, around Avenatti himself, including his financial dealings and the nearly 200 television appearances he has made since taking on Daniels’s case. Wood warned him that if he does formally enter the case, “you would have to stop doing some of the things you’ve been doing.”

Specifically, she said that Avenatti, who has routinely criticized Trump and Cohen on Twitter and television, would have to refrain from issuing “opinions on Mr. Cohen’s guilt.” Wood also said Avenatti could not disclose the contents of nonpublic documents. She suggested that she either wanted Avenatti to behave as a participating attorney in the case while Daniels’s application to intervene is held in abeyance or to remove himself.

“I don’t want you to exist in some kind of limbo where you are able to denigrate Mr. Cohen and potentially contaminate the jury pool,” said Wood.

Once? GreenMonkey... my man... we need to talk.

Spoilerizing because this is all off-topic to Trump, and all about Maher and Milo (with a cameo by dapper Dave Rubin). Don't want to derail the thread or anything.
Spoiler:

https://thinkprogress.org/bill-maher...-b1d9c74283cd/
(I know... I know... a "lefty" site. But the points are solid.)
He’s deeply Islamophobic. He once asked a Pakistani-British member of a popular boy band where he was during the Boston Bombing. He routinely denigrates the Quran, Muslims, and Islam—occasionally under the guise of a joke, but often in outright statements of naked bigotry.
https://youtu.be/sZGC56pfWKo
He consistently casts Muslims as dangerous and anti-American:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vln9D81eO60
He suggested millions of Muslims supported the Charlie Hebdo attack:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xj58TavOIqg
He fervently defended Bill O’Reilly’s racist and sexist joke about Rep. Maxine Waters’ hair, saying the outcry over it was an example of the kind of sensitivity that lost Democrats the presidential election.
He joked that drinking on St. Patrick’s Day played into stereotypes then quipped, “What if during Black History Month, we all bought lobster with food stamps? What if for Cinco de Mayo we all went swimming in blue jeans?”
As for his talk with Milo, a host like Maher has a responsibility to push back on lies and half-truths spoken by his guests, especially "controversial" ones. Milo didn't just make a joke about bathrooms, he said that transgender women pose a threat to other women and children. (they don't, not in any statistical way)
Maher responded: That's reasonable. (It isn't.)

Milo also said transgender people are "vastly disproportionately involved in sex crimes." Bill just shrugs, accepting it as fact. What Milo doesn't say is that... they're the victims in those crimes, not the perpetrators.

So acting like that kind of stuff is just "cracking trans-bathroom jokes" is not a fair representation of what was actually communicated in that discussion, with no pushback from the host. Bill can do whatever the hell he wants, but the criticism that most people have toward him on that issue is that it's downright irresponsible to give someone like Milo a national platform, and spend most of the interview praising him for being a real-life troll (even if he doesn't agree with what he says, except when he does), and not questioning his bogus statistics on the spot. If Bill fancies himself an "ally" to LGBT+ folks, that's great, but he needs to consider the harm of not challenging his guests who spout lies like Milo did. I mean, your takeaway was that it was "just jokes" so it's pretty clear that you didn't see through his bullshit either. I don't think anyone's saying you have to be 100% on board with all lefty/LGBT+ issues (feel free to provide an example otherwise), but if you're not on board with a particular issue, maybe just... don't downplay it to give the impression that you think it's a non-issue at all? I doubt that's your intent, but that's how it comes off. In other words: it's not helpful for folks to stand in the way of progress on a given issue unless they have a position that is diametrically opposed to the intended outcome. And if they ARE opposed, they should be able to articulate why. "It's fine the way it is" is, unfortunately, not always a reasonable answer, even if it is sometimes.

Dave Rubin is very similar to Maher; he gives a huge platform to truly reprehensible people, to an audience of "centrists*," but never (and I do mean NEVER) questions their controversial views in any meaningful way. The only "hard" interview he seems to have done was with the CEO of Patreon (a rare lefty on his show, or liberal or whatever you want to call someone left of center), when they banned a certain person from their service. Dave was intent on making Patreon look bad (being against free speech!), but the guy knew his shit and had thoughtful, reasoned, and logical responses to every one of Dave's dumb questions.

Rubin and Maher arguably do much more harm to the LGBT+ folks, intentionally or not, by downplaying their issues the way they do. Ironic, since Rubin's gay, but he very much seems like an "I got mine, so fuck you and yours" kind of <s>libertarian</s> "classical liberal".

*I say "centrists" because there's this theory that people who see themselves in the center (as much of Rubin's audience will claim) aren't so much "in the middle" on any given topic, but rather are comfortable with the status quo, and see no need for it to change... effectively siding with the right/reactionary side, in the face of, occasionally, much needed progress.
Put another way... centrists will almost always benefit the reactionaries more than they benefit the progressives, because they're happy with the way things are, or think all arguments deserve equal weight, etc.

on topic: wasn't Avenetti supposed to release a bunch of Cohen/Trump tapes today? No pee tape?

How can the right's outrage over Obama's tan suit, or choice of mustard, be a straw man when it actually happened?
