This - Trump is no longer accountable to the people and never will be. He just makes his proclamations from on high. Hail King Trump.

It's good to see that "priming the pump" is finally starting to catch on like gangbusters after Trump created the phrase last year.

I'm still waiting for "Collusion? That is so fetch!" to show up in one of his tweets.

haha; that's what happens when you fail to determine the legal fallout of your lies. So both Trump and his team as well as Novartis are playing asso-protecto by putting this all on Cohen. Wonder what he's saying to prosecutors behind closed doors?

This would be looking really bad for Cohen but you know a Pardon is coming and the "look at my 401k" crowd simply will not care.

ETA: The President lies to the country on an almost daily basis, often in ways that are instantly refutable. Meanwhile, on an almost daily basis the President tells the country that mainstream media can't be trusted.

If there's anything about this that is 'no big deal' I'm not seeing it. Help a brother out!
Oh, I'm not in the "no big deal" camp. I'm in the, "the corporate media has sold out and is in the infotainment business" camp. They do it for ratings. They're not guardians of the truth, they're not suppressing falsehoods, but highlighting them and making a big joke out of them. Not all news is fit to be covered.

When Trump calls for the suppression of the media, I don't believe it's to prime the pump for an eventual delegitimizing of the media, it is simply an incendiary thing to say, knowing that the media will spend hours covering it... and it is THEIR coverage of stuff like that, that delegitimizes themselves.

This is what Trump does... take a proverbial dump on his keyboard and sit back and watch the media buzz around it like a bunch of flies. Remember, this is the same media that covered a typo in a tweet for over 3 days. "we will never forget...Covfefe! (2.4 million search hits for covfefe)

But in that Covfefe example - Trump couldn't just say "I made a typo". And since those are official Presidential statements and the administration even stonewalled when asked about a typo, that was an early indicator of what kind of responses we would be getting for any question. And if they can't tell the truth about a typo, how can they be believed on ANYTHING else? That's worth discussing.

Also if memory serves, that coverage wasn't that serious and hardly wall-to-wall. But when the President can't admit a human mistake, it's a little troubling.

The fucker can't admit to making ANY mistake. I'm having the same problem with my daughter, but she's only nine years old.

But it was the media that couldn't let it go. The "well, since Trump didn't admit it was a typo so we had to needle him" response by the media isn't a very mature one. The coverage was absolutely wall to wall for the subsequent 72 hours.
if you want to go with a "we can go as low as Trump goes" type of response then go ahead, but I'm not going to allow him to dictate how I choose to respond.

What, then, is a measured, more-appropriate response to trying to figure out why the President and his team won't admit to a typo? If you're an organization that's used to asking people to clarify something and, by and large, they cooperate, but suddenly the people refuse to do it and in a stand-offish way, that sounds a little jarring to me. And it leads to more questions. And it's tough to let it go because it appears to have implications for patterns to come. Which has been proven over and over again since.

So, with all of that in mind, what would have been a measured, more-appropriate response, please?

We want to thank Kim Jong-un, who really was excellent to these three incredible people, Trump says of dictator who detained Americans.

I'm not sure I'd consider being in a North Korean Labor Camp being "treated very well"

What is there to "figure out"? By the time of covfefe, it was painfully clear that Trump is a liar and never admits to being wrong. They already knew the reasons. Media outlets poking fun at the typo wasn't their way of trying to figure out why he wouldn't admit to it. It was their way taking a dig at him for his lack of respect for them. The net result is that they gave others reasons to not respect them.

How about not reporting the typo in the first place? An overwhelming majority of Trump's tweets have typos in them. Most of them get mentioned in the media. Of all the things going on with this administration THESE are the things they spend time on? Even if it is a 3 second mention, it is too much time spent covering it. It's an unnecessary distraction that feeds into an administration whose mode of operation is distraction.

It makes the media appear to be petty. Again, not all news is worthy of being covered.

Look, I know that I'm in the minority on this. I expect the news media to be wise and defend the institution of journalism, not pander for ratings and clicks.
