Is it Sick or Seek (Sikh religion)?
As many or many might not know, Hoboken just elected the first Sikh Mayor. Kudos to them. Guy sounds very smart and wants to make a difference. Can't be any worse than Zimmer.
also, watching the news, 1 reporter pronounced sick and another seek. thus my confusion...
So how exactly do you pronounce the religion/word?

It is sick
If you say Seek you are not pronouncing it right.
At least this is not as bad as the retards who shoot Sikhs thinking they are Muslims because they wear turbans.

I think most Sikhs prefer the "sick" pronunciation.
I suspect that the pronunciation got Westernized to "seek" because of the negative connotations of the word "sick" in the English language.

But I say seek, because sick is hyper confusing with the English word sick that has like three different meanings.

Re: Is it Sick or Seek (Sikh religion)?
I worked with a lady who was Sikh. She pronounced it “seek”. Then again, I also worked with a Mormon woman who contended that polygamy was never a Mormon belief.
When did Niger (NIGH-jer) become Niger (nih-ZHEER)? I suspect the “new” pronunciation is actually the correct (French) pronunciation.
My sister-in-law is from Nigeria (different country for those who don’t know that) and she pronounces Nigeria as “nigh-JEER-ee-uh”.
You all should come to Central Illinois. We have towns such as Athens, Berlin, San Jose, and Versailles ... none of which are pronounced correctly. Even Hoopeston is not pronounced as it looks. Take your best guesses!

We have New Berlin (accent on the first syllable of Berlin). Is that the same as yours?

It varies by gender.
The males all pronounce it "Sir," while the females pronounce it "My Moon and Stars" (or just "Darlin' " for short).
On DVDTalk, I occasionally hear it pronounced "crick"...but then, I may be mishearing and confusing that with one of several rhyming words often substituted in its place.
