What if I identity as identify as a half Mexican/ half Japanese man named Hector Hanabusa? If I want to spend my life watching hentai porn and eating tacos, I have a got damn right to do so. Haven't I?

I think changing your gender is much more difficult because if you a man wanting a vagina, it won't exactly be a duplicate of a real woman vagina. And vice versa a woman wanting to be a man cannot sport a real penis.

In regards to changing your race however people done did that a long time ago. Get with the program Pablo Chan!

Not even getting into how much of a social construct race. Someone feeling they are in the wrong body is not the same as I enjoy Mexican food therefore I am Mexican. Someone liking or disliking Hentai Porn does not effect one's Japaneseness, the same way liking or disliking taco's would not effect someone's Mexican heritage.

I encourage you to ask someone who identifies as Mexican or Japanese these questions. Perhaps ask someone named Hector why you can't be Hector, too, and see how it goes. Don't leave out the bit about tacos, it will really drive your point home. Mexicans do love tacos (perhaps more than Japanese love their hentai), and it would be interesting to see how Hector feels about your right to love tacos as much as he does. Perhaps also ask this series of questions to a close friend who doesn't conform to a traditional binary gender. Maybe see if your questions engender some solidarity with them and show them you care, you never know. Report back here afterward, too, please, as we're big fans of updates around here.

Welcome to DVDTalk, I hope you find some good friends here through healthy interactions that begin with your positive attitude and genuine interest in building relationships.

I thought gender was a social construct. Why do the parents of transkids use their child's interest in opposite gender clothing and toys as evidence of what they identify as?

The rational behind being trasgender is just as insane as the rational behind being transracial.

Lol, you can't tell me this isn't fucked up.

Re: Why can you change your gender but not your race?

To answer this requires a lengthy explanation and discussion; something I honestly believe the OP is not interested in based on how the question had been framed.

For those that are interested, this 30-minute discussion is a perfect place to start.
If your response is "I'm not going to watch a 30-minute video!" then you're NOT interested in taking the discussion seriously to begin with.

People bring up this idea of transracialism purely to shit on transgender people.

Why assume it's a former member. Seems like there is a gap in posting by current users here about the same time these new ones pop in out of nowhere. Spaced Ape Mafia's posts are another perfect example.

Re: Why can you change your gender but not your race?

People can change their race. There used to be a problem that people with African ancestry would be able to pass as whites. It was considered a problem because it was widely accepted that Africans were an inferior race, and needed to be kept in their place. Social constraints were created to prevent that sort of passing.

Now the same sort of people are concerned that someone born as a woman might pass as a man. They believe that queers must be kept in their place.

Re: Why can you change your gender but not your race?

Oh Lord...here we go...again.

To the OP, in order to frame a reference, do you also believe in Science or not? How old do you believe the earth to be?

More and more evidence is showing that there is physical reasons for being a trans person. Is the research complete? Hardly. But mainly to your point, there have always been transgender people. Always. And there have always been gays. Always. No matter what time frame we would be in, no water what "social construct" we were under, there were always LBTGQ people.

Not only trolling but insulting. I see this in maybe comments sections in articles on transgenders. "What if the student identifies with being a cat. Does the school have to treat them like a cat?" It is a despicable dismissive and insulting type of thinking.

The race one is timely as had that happen recently. I don't remember all the details, but a white women was head of a black organization and stated she was black. Her mom "outed her" (IIR) as totally white and she lost her position. Her "defense" was that she identified as black. And I'm not buying it.

Is there a consequence for someone who is 100% White saying they are Black to get into a better college?

Is there a consequence for someone who is 100% Asian to say they are White to get into a better college?

What is the percentage that is acceptable in each case to not be deceitful?

For blacks, it's probably 1/4 or 1/8th black even if you look white or is it a pigment issue only?

For Asians, is it lying to say you are white if you are 50% Asian, or 25%?

I do not understand your point. I said in that particular case I was not buying it. Many people know their heritage based on what their parents say, yet when they do the DNA they find out they are something else. I don't think they meant to be deceitful.

I believe Native American's have set forth a "standard" for someone to claim to be NA. It that right or wrong? Don't know.

Yeah, I'm not challenging you, just saying that if your race gets you into a better college, then it becomes important to have a way to determine your race.

I made the Asian example because of recent studies claim that Ivy League schools discriminate against Asians and raise their qualifications over white applicants to limit admissions. If I'm second generation Asian or had one Asian parent, why would I put Asian down as my race on a college application if it made it harder for me to get in?

So you are dismissing her belief about herself and "who she is."

Hmmm....seems like we've had that discussion recently...hmmmm....

Hmmm... it's almost like it's actually a more complicated issue than what a single snarky response can convey... hmmmm....

Here's a decent primer
