Taxpayers billed $1,092 for an officialís two-night stay at Trumpís Mar-a-Lago club

There is no excuse for Trump forcing taxpayers to pay for anyone to stay at one of his hotels. There are plenty of other hotels, which are run by independent parties, and which charge much lower rates. Government officials who need to stay in a hotel at taxpayer expense should use those hotels, not Trump's.

Taxpayers billed $1,092 for an officialís two-night stay at Trumpís Mar-a-Lago club

September 15, 2017

The bedroom suites at President Trumpís Mar-a-Lago club, available only to members and their guests, feature hand-painted Moorish ceilings, antique Spanish-tiled mosaics and sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean.

On a weekend in early March, during one of seven trips by Trump and his White House entourage to the posh Palm Beach property since the inauguration, the government paid the Trump-owned club to reserve at least one bedroom for two nights.

The charge, according to a newly disclosed receipt reviewed by The Washington Post, was $1,092.

The amount was based on a per-night price of $546, which, according to the bill, was Mar-a-Lagoís ďrack rate,Ē the hotel industry term for a standard, non-discounted price.

The receipt, which was obtained in recent days by the transparency advocacy group Property of the People and verified by The Post, offers one of the first concrete signs that Trumpís use of Mar-a-Lago as the ďWinter White HouseĒ has resulted in taxpayer funds flowing directly into the coffers of his private business.

Yep, that's just the cost of having Trump as President.

If it would make people happy he should, instead of refusing a salary, except his $400k a year salary and let the $1,092 hotel stay slide.

He is making far more off of his Presidency than a paltry 400k.

Really? This is what we are going to get outraged about? Of all the things he has done and said, this is what crosses the line?

Nah, it is just one of many. Why be of the mind that certain wrong things can not be brought up because there are other improper things happening? They should all be called out. Kids at school that have discipline problems have files kept on them. They don't forget the pencil incident just because the same kid wrote an expletive word in the bathroom.

I'm outraged that rack rate at maralago is only 500 bucks. Must be a real dump!

Not that this isn't a problem, but would anyone be irritated if the politicians were put up in a Marriott hotel that cost over $1K a night? I'm pretty sure we can find ample examples where this has happened for decades prior.

Just because it's a Trump-owned property, isn't the problem here. The problem is that the taxpayer was billed for such a high amount.

I think it is a conflict of interest. The price is also ridiculous.

It's a twofer.

The fact that Trump gets paid for the use of his hotel for a taxpayer funded trip isn't a problem? I think it is.

They shouldn't ever use a Trump property for anything.

If Trump were a different man, he'd donate the income from his properties to the Treasury. At the very least, the profits derived from U.S government spending -- secret service, his aides, and so on.

But he's not a different man.
