Google diversity memo

Other thread got closed on a technicality.

https://www.documentcloud.org/docume...o-Chamber.html

There was a comment in the old thread that said someone was unable to open the link at work. Funny or scary?

In my opinion many of the things he said are true or at least merit consideration.

The only practical solution is to work in a different industry. As a conservative he finds himself to be a minority in tech. There are other industries that are very conservative where liberals must hold their tongues and hide: Real estate, finance, insurance, sales, etc.

I think this guy is simply in the wrong field.

Re: Google diversity memo

What things do you specifically think are true or merit consideration?

There's a difference between being a conservative and thinking that women are biologically inferior to be in tech.

Such as?

Hold their tongues and hide? Nope. I work in financial sales and there's plenty of open discussion from both sides.

I read this story when it popped up a few days ago but didn't read any follow up. Was the guy fired? If so, I disagree with that. I think he has a very ignorant opinion but he shouldn't be fired for voicing it. He needs some education and Google can use this as perfect chance to do just that.

Affluent white male with ~4 years experience in a field predominantly run by affluent white males says white males are the truly disadvantaged ones.

Okay.

Is there a word count requirement for the first post in a thread?

Personally, I don't think:

Re: Google diversity memo

You can always tell a dude who's threatened by women and their autonomy. It takes him at least nine paragraphs to avoid coming out with the truth, which is that he fears being castrated by his inability to tell them what to do, who they can marry, etc. It's pretty pitiful, but then it's also amusing.

Re: Google diversity memo

Google may have a more open policy than most other companies, but sending a company-wide memo like this would give most HR departments a lot of headaches and complaints. I don't think keeping him employed and reeducating him is in scope here.

He was fired and he is now suing Google over it. However I cannot imagine how he could have remained at the company since surely no woman there would ever agree to work with him again.

Not to stereotype males, but as opposed to who, exactly?

As opposed to those of us who can actually relate to another human being.

Re: Google diversity memo

I was having some fun here because the other thread was locked because of what is qualified as "commentary" but in the other thread I asked "Has anyone else read it?"

I believe some of his recommendations would be great in a workplace.

Re: Google diversity memo

Here's an interesting piece where four scientists respond to the Google employee's memo, and they discuss biological differences between men and women and how those differences play out in the workplace.
