Should be an interesting November in FL. DeSantis being a well published Trump lover and Gillum being black should bring the Republicans out in droves in Nov. Hopefully the energy is there for Gillum. He was the most liberal of the Dem candidates running this season.
That doesn't bode well for the blue wave, does it?

I suspect that most swing voters, especially in a purple state like Florida, given the choice between far-left and far-right, will go far-right.

And the commercials to paint the former OKC Republican Mayor as anti-Trump worked and the state pushed for Trump-ish businessman for the republican spot. Hopefully the well known former AG will get enough votes, despite being an evil (D), this fall.

Edited to add that the repub candidate's business was called “Business Insider called my business one of the top 10 shadiest companies" and was banned for life from doing business is Georgia, he himself banned for 5 years from doing business in Georgia. But the other candidate said Trump's wall would not do anything and he did not endorse him during the election.

That's correct. I expect DeSantis to win the Governor spot and that will also help push Rick Scott into the Senate.

Well, DeSantis is trying to appeal to his racist base more than ever

Maybe not, but it's actually extra blue wave.
People going far left just like republicans went tea party back in 2010.
Same thing happened here, in my (very conservative) district primary, the FAR Left Dem beat the moderate Dem.
That's just a sign that the far left is energized. Finally.

Oh, that's just what we need. Give the voters a choice between crony capitalism or nationalized industry.

I'd be ok with it. But I need to see it happen with my own eyes. Color me skeptical, but hopeful.

That doesn't mean jack shit in the general election.

You say you're in a very conservative district. A left democrat beat a moderate democrat in the democratic primary.

But what happens in the general election? Will your very conservative district vote for the left democrat, or the right republican? I would wager the latter will win in the general election. Would the moderate democrat have had a chance to flip the seat?

I fear that democrats hoping for some kind of tea party effect will be disappointed. The general electorate, including the moderates, seems more conservative than liberal.

I have often said that most moderate, undeclared, and undecided voters are just vacillating republicans.

If people were inclined to vote for democrats, then two out of three state legislatures and governorships wouldn't be controlled by the republicans, and most of them hard right, to boot. Liberals can look at those numbers and say that it's because the democrats aren't liberal enough, but that's just a fantasy.

Ultimately, the American left is going to need to compromise its values if it wants any say in the government. The numbers are not on their side, and the opposition has turned the ability to both get its message out and poison the well on the other side into a fucking science (and that's not even getting into suppressing undesirable voters). The ability to be uncompromising is a luxury the right has that the left does not.

Ah, yet another archaic phrase few people use anymore that conveniently has a tinge of racism in this context.

"Screw this up" even has less syllables.

Yeah, I don't think he meant it that way, but it's something ya gotta be aware of when you open your mouth. It's sort of like when Jerry Seinfeld was dating a Native American girl who asked to have a gift returned to her and said "You can't give someone a gift and then take it back! What are you, an......."

I think it's done for effect. If you get a ton of backlash, you either apologize or say, "just kidding, why is the fake media so sensitive?" You get out of it that way and if no one says anything, you get the dog whistle rolling out the mouth breathers.

I honestly think Republicans, as they are now, are so outdated and on the verge of imploding, that within a generation or two, they'll be gone, replaced by the current moderate Dems being the Right, with the "socialist" Dems taking over the Left. Looking at progress/history, it's inevitable.

I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe it's because I've made mistakes like that in the past. Like one time I was telling some people about how I got a better price on something, and used a turn of phrase that's more than a little anti-Semitic, totally forgetting that one of the people I was talking to was Jewish. Felt really shitty about it.

Who is proposing nationalized industry?

The closest that anyone has come to that is "Medicare for all," which would certainly reduce the size of the health insurance industry, but by no means nationalize it.

Nobody uses the phrase "monkey this up" anymore unless they want to for a specific reason.

I'm sorry but "Jewing" someone down on a price, while unfortunate was still a fairly common term in the last 20 or so years. "Monkeying" something up I don't think I've ever heard uttered in my 43 years.

Didn't Trump just propose "medicare for all" which Gillum supports?

The monkey comment probably will help DeSantis.

Hey

I'll give O'Rourke and his supporters a lot of credit for energy and motivation. I get a lot of calls and mail from them, and nothing from Cruz, and that's not because I am somehow more connected to the Democratic database.

Texas GOP seems to be coming out hard against O'Rourke for ... having been in a punk band back in the 90s?

https://mashable.com/2018/08/29/beto.../#eb41p9rP9aqX

Fun fact -- Beto's 90s bandmate is Cedric Bixler-Zavala of Mars Volta and At the Drive-In.

Cruz is insinuating that O'Rourke doesn't want to debate. But O'Rourke pressed for debates for a long time before Cruz caved and agreed to have debates ... on Friday nights. Friday nights in the fall in Texas? I'm pretty sure most Texans have something else going on then.

Clear eyes, full heart, can't lose, Ted!

^ Yep. Cruz disingenuously agreeing to debate ONLY on Friday nights is sad; even more so when I hear people saying O'Rourke is now a coward because he won't agree to something so absurd. Right out of the Ben "Debate ME, a blogger, for $10,000" Shapiro handbook.

Oh, and, it's awesome that O'Rourke was in a band with Bixler-Zavala.

Only dweebs were in rock bands in the '90s.
