Multiple Democratic Socialists of America leaders endorse Communism

The Democratic Socialists of America recently got a major boost when one of their endorsed candidates, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, beat out incumbent Democrat Rep. Joe Crowley in a primary last Tuesday for New York’s 14th Congressional District.

This far-left political organization previously made headlines when leadership from their Iowa State campus chapter encouraged people to shoot president Trump and when leadership from their University of Georgia Chapter called for the execution of house GOP members. Now multiple DSA leaders are publicly endorsing communism, an ideology responsible or the oppression, incarceration, and murder of tens of millions of people.

Here is the original tweet from Olivia Katbi Smith, who is the co-Chair of the Portland DSA chapter:

As a DSA chapter co-chair I just wanna set the record straight for a minute: communism is good

— Olivia Katbi Smith🌹أوليفيا كاتبي (@livkittykat) June 30, 2018

Shortly after, other DSA leaders weighed in with their endorsement of communism.

The Charlottesville DSA co-chair:

as a dsa chapter co-chair, i would like to cosign this pro-communist statement. https://t.co/xFTDXJQJH6

— molly 🌹 (@socialistdogmom) July 1, 2018

The Hudson County DSA co-chair:

As a DSA branch co-chair, I would like to sign onto this with a small amendment: Communism is very good. https://t.co/We1AUMZYTZ

— Free Palestine/Abolish ICE (@ThatNJSocialist) July 2, 2018

The Seattle DSA co-chair:

As a DSA chapter co-chair as well, I extremely second this. https://t.co/cO1elllluD

— Keaton ☭ 🌹 (@Keatronn) July 1, 2018

An Officer for the Queens DSA chapter:

As a previous branch co-chair, and a current elected rep of @QueensDSA's electoral working group, I second this statement#CommunismIsGoodActually#MultitendancyLeft https://t.co/ybj7rAzvBl

— Justine Medina 🌹 (@jnmedina8989) July 1, 2018

Since her win, legacy media has rolled out the red carpet for Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and for “democratic socialism”. She has done interview after interview after interview and appears to be starting her “late night comedy” circuit but for some reason, her affiliation with an organization whose members have openly called for the murder of their political opposition and who are now endorsing a violent authoritarian ideology has not been brought into question. Why is that? Could you imagine a Republican winning a primary and being endorsed by an organization whose members advocated for the murder of Democrats and whose leadership said “Nazism is good”? How differently would that play out?

First, Trump received and continues to receive support from neo-Nazis and white supremacists, who openly advocate for genocide. Second, Communism is very good, actually. I need to get to my next Portland DSA meeting.

If you don't mind doing so, please try to find out what percentage of DSA members in your local chapter support communism, what percentage oppose it, and what percentage have no opinion of it. And if your'e not comfortable asking, that's OK, I understand. Thanks.

I wouldn't do it myself (I'm a pacifist). But I'm okay with these people bullying politicians. Politicians are public servants. If you didn't vote for them, they still represent you.

And if someone feels enraged enough to protest, they can protest. The GOP has pushed enough buttons to cause that rage. They thought they were being tough by separating families who tried to cross the border. This is the blowback. And if they don't like it, they should enact policies that cause less tension.

And on that subject - I felt like we had many years of timid policies. And then around 2006 through now, we elected the politicians who said the meanest things and took the staunchest positions. It's almost like an extension of how we communicate through the internet. And it might be because of the internet. It's much easier for voters to find a politicians acidic rhetoric by looking them up online. Where-as maybe politicians felt less likely to do that before, because they have to say those things in real life. I prefer the timid politicians who can be viewed as sellouts. I think that's what a peaceful and united nation needs.

The protest is not much different than getting upset about other things. Someone can pick away at your goodwill, and you'll eventually do something about it. It's why companies see customers disappear.

A toss up as where this would be most relevant so I'm just gonna stick it here.

Sourced, pithy snark worth taking the 2 minutes or so to ingest.

Looks like Democrat's have shot themselves in the foot by not expelling Menendez of NJ last year and and not endorsing a primary challenge against him in 2018. He is tied in new polls and very likely might lose, would be crazy if they can flip TN,NV and AZ and hold onto most of their seat's in Super red state's but fall 1 seat short of Senate Majority because they lose in NJ.

re: 2018 Congressional, Governor, etc election thread

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently said the reason the unemployment rate was so low was "because everyone has two jobs."

She's wrong on two counts.

First of all, when the government determines the unemployment rate, it does so by asking people if they are unemployed, ready to work, and looking for work. A person is either employed or unemployed. There is no category for someone who has two jobs as opposed to someone who has one job.

Secondly, even if the government did make that distinction, the percentage of workers with multiple jobs is actually lower now than in the past.

Apparently, Ocasio-Cortez seems to think that a low unemployment rate is a bad thing, and not a good thing.

And she makes claims without those claims being backed up by any source.

Oh, gosh, I hope she wins in November.

Given her district, it's a certainly, unless something really weird and unexpected happpens.

That's awful! grundle, what do you think the penalty should be for repeatedly making claims not being backed up by any source?

I don't think there should be any official penalty. I do think other people should cite sources to show that the person was wrong.

Actually, a lot of the blame falls on Fox News personality Jason Chaffetz for spreading incorrect and overblown information.

This gal just graduated from Cal Berkeley and will be working long hours every day and I guess the local Democratic party needed somewhere to put her up.
I hate having house-guests but I'm going along with it because the Mrs feels it's important and it'll be worth it if that weenie Heller loses his seat. He tries to distance himself from Trump and his policies but at the end of the day always votes for Trump. Memorably, he was the deciding vote that approved DeVos for Education Secretary.
Jackie Rosen gets right to the point in this first negative ad :

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Y0AOqRX08FE" frameborder="0" allow="autoplay; encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I so, so want Heller to lose. And I voted for him six years ago (don't tell my wife). I thought he was a moderate and would be sensible but he's just a weenie, easily intimidated by the orange menace.

As for the house guest, she moved in last week. They work her like a dog. I barely see her. She works six days a week. She gets in after 11 at night and leaves before 8 the next morning. Her room is an awful mess, it could give Alan Smithee a run for his money. But she doesn't mess up the rest of the house so I can live with it (though my Blu Ray/ DVD collection is in the guest room closet, so that is a little difficult to access now). Other than that, it's been fine. Funnily enough, tonight I went to the local Smith's and as I left she went up to me and tried to register me to vote before she realized who I was. I told her I had already registered.

As far as looks (which I know was a subject of some debate before), she is alright but certainly not the looker/braless wonder hippie I had hoped for.

re: 2018 Congressional, Governor, etc election thread

Thank you, Decker, as well as to your house guest. There isn't a lot of polling info about the Nevada senate election. Very little are suggesting it's lean D or a toss up.

Edit: Some news, but of course it's won't guarantee a victory.

Democrat Jacky Rosen outraised Republican Sen. Dean Heller by more than $1 million in recent months, continuing her yearlong streak of bringing in more campaign cash than the embattled incumbent.

Rosen, a first-term congresswoman from Henderson, has outraised Heller every quarter since she officially jumped into the race last July. But she's been spending heavily too and doesn't have as much campaign cash stashed as Heller does.

In the most recent quarter, she reported having raised $3.5 million from April through June, while Heller reported raising about $2.4 million.

Heller's fundraising slowed last year but he's picked up the pace as he seeks to defend his seat in the battleground state. He brought in twice as much cash from April through June as he did the previous quarter and has almost $6 million in his campaign coffers.

Rosen, who has been churning out television ads, appears to have parted with about $3 million, leaving her to start July with about $3.8 million.

Heller and Rosen's most recent fundraising reports are not yet posted on the Federal Election Commission's website but their campaigns have provided some data from their reports.

Heller got a slight boost from a private fundraiser in June that President Donald Trump headlined while stopping in Las Vegas. Donors, who paid $15,000 for a private photo reception with the president and $50,000 for a private roundtable, brought in less than half a million dollars for Heller, the Nevada Republican Party and the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
