Nice to see the Republicans continuing with their tradition of nominating racist anti-Semites, Corey Stewart won the Senate primary in Virginia.

Saw that. It's just amazing the type of voters that would nominate someone like that in a primary...But then again, it is the Republican primary...Good luck against Tim Kaine...

I can't imagine that helping Comstock for her House seat.

Ugh. What a douche. I'm still holding out hope that we won't elect people like this again. That's a good attitude for pro wrestling, not government.

A) That's not what was said.
B) That wasn't directed at an individual - specifically, an opponent. Like when Trump encouraged the assassination of Hillary Clinton.

But keep trying to deflect!

He's pretty good at mimicking Trump, he also shared an obviously photoshopped pic of Tim Kaine

Katie Arrington, GOP lawmaker who defeated Sanford, seriously injured in car accident

Katie Arrington, a Republican legislator who defeated Rep. Mark Sanford in the South Carolina GOP primary earlier this month, was seriously injured in a car accident Friday night.

According to a campaign statement, Arrington and a friend, Jacqueline Goff, were driving on Highway 17 when their car was struck by another vehicle traveling in the wrong direction.

“Katie sustained a fracture in her back and several broken ribs, as well as injuries that required Katie to undergo major surgery including the removal of a portion of her small intestine and a portion of her colon,” the campaign spokesman said. “Additionally, the main artery in her legs has a partial collapse and will require a stent. Additional surgeries will be required including one likely today; and it is likely that Katie will remain hospitalized for the next two weeks.”

The spokesman said Goff was driving, with Arrington in the passenger seat, and that Goff was also in a hospital with injuries.

A campaign spokesman said that Arrington was alert and talking Saturday morning, and Republicans offered their support for her as news of the accident circulated.

[Rep. Mark Sanford defeated in South Carolina after critical Trump tweet]

“Our thoughts and prayers this morning go to Katie Arrington, her family and those involved in last night’s automobile accident,” Sanford wrote in a tweet.

“We are shocked by the news of her accident and urge all South Carolinians to keep her in their prayers,” Gov. Henry McMaster said in a tweet. “She is a strong, determined woman. We need her, and she will pull through.”

President Trump also reacted, tweeting: “My thoughts and prayers are with Representative Katie Arrington of South Carolina, including all of those involved in last nights car accident, and their families.”

Arrington is expected to remain the GOP’s nominee for the seat in November. According to South Carolina law, in the event that a candidate “dies, becomes disqualified after his nomination, or resigns his candidacy for a legitimate nonpolitical reason,” the party would hold a new, truncated primary.

[Did Trump sink Mark Sanford?]

Early Saturday, Arrington’s Democratic opponent, Joe Cunningham, said that he would suspend active campaigning until the Republican nominee recovered.

Arrington’s campaign did not identify the driver of the other car but asked for “continued prayers for the deceased and the deceased’s family, as well as prayers for a quick recovery for Katie and her friend.”

On June 12, Arrington defeated Sanford in a primary that turned on the congressman’s frequent criticism of President Trump. Democrats said they would seriously compete for South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District, which stretches from Charleston to the state’s border with Georgia.

Surprising announcement from Cunningham. If he'd been injured, do you think a Trump supporter would pause the campaign, or do you think she'd go for the kill?

A Trump supporter would go in for the kill because that’s what Trump’s base wants. A Democrat would likely be criticized by his own voters for going after an injured opponent, Trump supporter or not.

She is running against an 8 term Rep. in Round Rock (north of Austin).

Absolutely one of the best ads I’ve seen.

re: 2018 Congressional, Governor, etc election thread

Our family's contribution to the 2018 Midterm election will be this : We are putting up a campaign worker for Jackie Rosen in our guest room from July until the election. Rosen is the Democratic candidate for Senate from NV running against Dean Heller, commonly thought to be the most at-risk Republican Senator up for re-election in 2018. This gal just graduated from Cal Berkeley and will be working long hours every day and I guess the local Democratic party needed somewhere to put her up.
I hate having house-guests but I'm going along with it because the Mrs feels it's important and it'll be worth it if that weenie Heller loses his seat. He tries to distance himself from Trump and his policies but at the end of the day always votes for Trump. Memorably, he was the deciding vote that approved DeVos for Education Secretary.
