Actually, I would respectfully disagree with you as the Republicans don't like her cause they perceive her as a Socialist who is going to push the Democrats more to the left. Do you think they are any nicer to Bernie Sanders, who is a white male socialist?

Not sure about this obsession with race sometimes, as it's all about policy with these people on both sides. They are all color blind if you support their agenda, and you are the enemy if you don't.

In saying that, I actually like what she said about the Amazon tax breaks the other day as it was refreshing to see a politican call out Corporate Welfare.

Quaking in their boots.

Conservatives Fear Latinos and Socialism. They Are Terrified of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Interesting.

I do think they are nicer to Bernie Sanders. For example, Sanders has made some misstatements that are every bit as egregious as AOC referring to "three chambers (House, Senate, White House)" but they haven't pounced on those the way they pounced on her. Now, there could be lots of reasons for that difference -- I'm not saying it's necessarily because he's a white man and she's a Latina woman -- but it's foolish to dismiss that out of hand.

I believe the key is not they diagree with those they label as Socialists, whcih they obviously do. It's the amount of focus one gets because they are antying other than a straight, white, Christian male. You've saw them start going after Bernie's religious beliefs when all else was falling short, right?

"Democrat Ben McAdams has flipped a U.S. House seat in deep-red Utah, defeating Republican U.S. Rep. Mia Love by fewer than 700 votes in a race that took two weeks to settle."

I think that makes a net gain of 38. Considering the number of seats the Republicans had before the election this certain was a Blue wave in the House.

It was a complete victory because the Republicans picked up two Senate seats when there were 23 D and 8 R on the ballot. Besides, Trump wasn't even on the ballot.

Yet, the only real difference between her and Bernie is that she's a young, non-white woman.

Yep; nothing scares old white men more than a young, not white woman in power.

Maybe 40?

Yeah, I definitely believe age/gender is a big reason for the pushback on AOC. Nothing enrages old white men more than a young woman coming in and telling them what's what.

Her inexperience doesn't help, but hey, the Republicans decided that a reality show host's first political office should be the highest one in the country, so they have little room to talk.

Why would he (or anyone for that matter) have to admit being wrong about saying something was entirely possible?

Because he made a definitive statement about something that turned out to be patently false based on premature, minimal evidence. He didn't say a Blue wave was still possible, he said it isn't happening.

This kind of half assed election calling way before even a small percentage of returns are in is part of the big problem we have with elections in this country.

There's another real difference: Bernie panders to the racists by constantly harping about how the left needs to court "white working class" people. AOC talks about the working class without that racial adjective at the beginning.

Meh. Election calling means declaring winners and losers, often before the returns are in. He wasn't calling elections there, he was just offering commentary. On the list of things wrong with elections in this country, talking heads on cable news making uninformed or sensationalized commentary is pretty far down the list.

Plus, I wasn't watching Jake tapper, but whoever I was watching had a similar dour tone. Things did NOT look good in the beginning, which is why I turned the TV off, ate a HUGE pot brownie and just played video games instead. It was stressing me out too much.

Does he really? He should be confronted thereon. Working class is working class, whatever the race. It is unwise of Sanders to create divisions where none should exist.

Yeah, James Carville on MSNBC said the same thing.

(This was in reply to joeblow but I forgot to quote his post.)

What time did he say that? I think that kind of mindset is to motivate people to put down their bongs and get out to vote. You almost have to scare people into voting ... for anything!

Yeah probably. I was really irritated with the guy Election Night. He just came across as an arrogant know it all. I was glad he was proven wrong.

I think it is more of a symptom of the Cable Networks so willing to analyze the election results that night (strictly for ratings) until waiting for the dust to settle. Why do we need to have countless pundits to analyze results that are still coming in on Election night? Answer: Ratings.

I remember back in 1996, CNN projected Republican Senator Bob Smith to lose his New Hampshire Seat strictly on Exit polling. I also remember in 1996, ABC called the House flipping back to the Democrats before all the results were in, just on exit polling. They were both wrong as Smith won his New Hampshire Seat and The Republicans still controlled the House. Thankfully the networks have backed off on exit polling as they used to use them to call a lot more races back in the day.

I wish they would just save the speculation and pundits for the following nights/weeks when you can analyze the data. Calling a Red Wave or Blue at 9:00 on Election Night every 2 years is hard to do unless it's a landslide election like 1984 when Reagan won 49 states and the election was over in July.

It's just this society we live in and the rush to judgement as all of the networks are guilty of it. I still remember Karl Rove would not concede Ohio to Obama in 2012, as they always end up having egg on their face.
