100% truth.

People love free stuff in this country, and it is next to impossible to stop any government program like this. It's always funny to listen to people I know who hate big deficits, hate big government, but when I get specific on which programs to cut, they get defensive and say we can't touch this and that.

We have a 20 trillion dollar debt and the majority of our budget is spent on Military and Entitlements, and if they are untouchable then you will never solve the deficit/debt problem. I don't blame politicans because they are just mimicking the American Voter as they really don't want cuts when someone gets specific. The only cuts you ever hear from a Politican is 'waste and fraud' which won't even make a dent in the deficit.

Wow some bipartisan effort in Congress. That's pretty rare. Makes me hopeful that the Repubs might have some balls if Trump blows up the Mueller investigation.

I'll just leave this here. Maybe Politico wants to raise awareness early, so we don't have another Trump situation on our hands.

Re: 2018 Congressional election thread

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Sunday said it is "unimportant" for Democrats to win the midterm elections in 2018.

"That's so unimportant. What is important is that we have the lively debate on a better deal," Pelosi said.

When asked to estimate the chances of Democrats winning back the lower chamber in 2018 and whether she would run again for Speaker if they did.

"I am a master legislator. I know the budget to the n-th degree. I know the motivation of people," responded Pelosi

Lowering expectations...She's been doing that for years.

Re: 2018 Congressional election thread

This poll doesn't mean a hell of a lot since it's not by district, but at least there's a trend leaning towards Dems for the midterms.

That's a very bi-partisan thing for Pelosi to say. Good for her. The idea is that we should be talking and doing what's best for everyone, and not focusing on who's team has the most votes.

Well, it looks like Ted Cruz's reelection campaign just got a little ... *ahem* harder.

While it is funny that Cruz liked a porn tweet, to keep things in perspective this is the twitter account of a sitting US president:

Of course they did.

I wonder what the die-hard Trump followers will think/do when it all starts flipping again. I wonder if they will know/accept that this is how it is. Or if they'll go nuts. I don't recall too much upset when Republicans starting taking seats in 2010 and 2012.
