Shootings at Congressional baseball practice in Alexandria

Rep. Steve Scalise was shot Wednesday morning in Alexandria, Virginia

According to both congressional and law enforcement sources, the shooting appears to be a "deliberate attack."

Reported shooter intended to kill as many republicans as possible.

Re: Members of congress shot

Folks, if you needed any more proof we are headed for a civil war, look no further than this and what the Senate republicans are trying to do with the healthcare bill. This is about to become the norm.

No you are wrong. Rep. Roger Williams was also reportedly shot.

I don't think this is known yet. Rep. DeSantis has stated that someone did ask him on his way to his car whether it was Repubs or Demos practicing, but there is no confirmation that it was the shooter that asked or, even if it was, whether it would have made a difference. You're probably right, but we'll see in the coming days once they investigate the shooter.

That said, this could bring the gun control debate right back up onto the front burner again, especially if it was GOP Congresspeople who were targeted, the rifle in question was an "assault rifle" and the shooter acquired it legally.

Jesus dude, get a grip. Did we have a civil war because Giffords was shot? No.

I don't take this as evidence of a coming civil war, any more than I did when Gabby Gifford was shot.

Do gunshot wounds qualify as a "pre-existing condition"?

OK. Don't be worried like Mr. Head In the Sand here. Good luck playing softball everyone. I hope you voted the right way!!

Wake up. Shit is bad. And a civil war doesn't have to mean we start lining up on opposite sides and firing muskets at each other.

Not yet, but remember states can apply for a waiver.

This is what's become of this place? The things that get spoken about in this batshit crazy 'political forum' is a breeding ground for this kind of shit. No better than all the looney houses on right.

When one of you goes off and gets himself in the news in the coming civil war, this place will be a gold mine.

Wonder if the mayor of London will throw some shade to Trump.

Course he is to classy and will likely just offer any help and prayers.

Well, to be fair, the shooter doesn't sound like he comes from the houses on the right side of the street.

But you are right, we aren't helping. No one is helping. Everyone is only making things worse. Maybe Trump really is the Anti-Christ.

That's funny right there (of course hoping all end up being OK).

Re: Shootings at Congressional baseball practice in Alexandria

What a terrible thing. Gun violence is deplorable, a curse we must cure at its roots. Lord, have mercy.

It sounds like it could've been MUCH worse. Sen. Jeff Flake mentioned on NPR that without Rep. Steve Scalise there, they wouldn't have had a Capitol PD detail there for protection (they returned fire at the shooter). He gets that detail because of his status as House majority whip. Not sure being so open about who does or doesn't have protection is so helpful, maybe this is a time to keep that on the DL as much as possible.

I don't look forward to the barking match that will likely ensue from the extremities of the spectrum out there in the punditry circles. Maybe now is a time to first take a breath as a nation.

People are hopping excited to start a war these days.

If you're right, why not hurt people who are wrong?

Yup, Flake is right. It is not common knowledge but it is pretty easy to find out who the USSS and USCP (and DSS in the case of foreign dignitaries) do and do not protect. Also keep in mind that a member of the House only (officially anyway) gets paid $174,000 a year. That is not nearly enough of a salary to afford a decent bodyguard, let alone a protection team.

Look for this security coverage gap to become a topic of political conversation again in the coming weeks. The USSS has a massive agent shortage as it is, interestingly enough.

Just as a general warning, note that there is a lot of false information going around in the rush to get a story out. You might want to wait a few days before stating something as a fact.

For all we know this is a case of workplace violence.

Or a domestic dispute.

Yea. It's impossible to assume anything as stories like this develop.

Maybe the shooter was an angel helping these guys get to heaven. I've been binging on Supernatural lately.
