No real details yet. CNN has a 12 second video someone posted on social media. It shows people leaving the arena ... Wolf Blitzer called it "chaos and confusion". Must be British chaos as it looked pretty orderly to me. "Oh, sorry mate, my apologies for walking briskly."

First reported as something that may have gone wrong that was part of the show.. but now reporting there were 2 separate explosions. Details are all over the place.

Damn. It is sick shit to bomb anything but even more so where there are likely a large amount of children.

I can barely put into words how saddening this is, but I'll try: It's so saddening that I'm not even going to make a joke about Ariana Grande's talent or the merits of folks who would pay to see her.

I really do hope that Drudge estimate is wrong. Let's pray for everyone's safety.

The civilized world needs to put aside their differences, and just annihilate these fuckers. The victims here will be just kids. Don't use this (and other attacks) to buttress any other agenda other than to organize a coordinated effort to kill every fucking member of ISIS, Boko Haram, Hezbollah... don't do it for poll numbers... don't do it to galvanize your base... just do it because it's time... and it's just.

Horrible. These types of events are easy targets just like comiccon would be. Wonder how soon it will be before Trump posts on Twitter that this was Obama ' s fault somehow.

I'm sure the timing of this with Trump in Israel isn't just a coincidence. Trump just spend the last couple of days trying to rally the world to eliminate ISIS and other radical Islam groups.. I'm sure this is a message that they aren't going to go out so easy.

Too bad the world has been more concerned about being PC than taking these guys more seriously.

The latest update is that this was a suicide bomber standing by the exit to the arena who detonated right after the concert ended.

Manchester Arena explosion at Ariana Grande gig

Witnesses reported hearing a 'massive bang' before people fled the scene screaming.

Unconfirmed reports from NHS sources have said the injuries seen suggest the explosion could have been caused by a nail bomb.

Multiple sources claiming at least 20 dead. Bomb disposal at the scene.

Police have confirmed a "number of fatalities" following reports of an explosion.

I think the problem is how to do it, without riling up more people with nothing to lose. These people are human garbage. Brainwashed religious people. Seems like the more confidence and certainty (or "faith") you have that your intangible ideas are correct, the more open you are to that brainwashing.

Maybe the fear is that these people are faceless. And these attacks could happen anywhere at anytime. We keep that at bay by not instigating (or "taking the bait"). If we were to attempt to destroy all of them, it could engage their followers to carry out more attacks. Combine the brainwashing with all of their disinformation and propaganda. And it'd be impossible to "kill every ISIS member" without killing tons of innocent people. And then affecting the lives of their friends and family. Imagine if this kind of thing were happening a couple times a day.

Man, terrorism is complicated. I had no idea!

This is really the new normal for the UK and Western Europe, as the police simply can't keep up with the number of plots.

Nonsense.

We don't know how many attackers were involved, but experts say that it's extremely difficult to stop individuals operating independently of the main terrorist group. If unknown prospective terrorists don't communicate with anyone else or only communicate with a few others in person behind closed doors, then how do you identify them? We're not living in the world of Philip K. Dick's Minority Report where there are pre-cogs that can see murders before they occur with 100% certainty. And if known prospective terrorists haven't actually broken the law, then what do you do given that law enforcement doesn't have unlimited resources and must follow the law?

If authorities stop 99 out of 100 attacks (including many we never hear about), attacks will still occur. Should the United States, United Kingdom, France, etc. become police states in a vain attempt to stop all attacks? Are we going to trade away our civil liberties for little to nothing in return? The terrorists would probably consider that a victory as well.

Exactly. The bomber hurts the citizens, then the government hurts the citizens again by intruding on their rights, all in the name of "security."

All the best to the victims and their loved ones. They were children at the concert. Even the children who were physically unhurt are going to have to deal with the mental and emotional pain. Unbelievable. I just don't get it.

Re: Explosions (w/fatalities) @ Ariana Grande concert in the UK

I've read that our "war on terror" has mainly served to fragment terrorist groups. Now there are numerous cells operating independently instead of larger groups. ISIS is obviously the exception, but most of the attacks done in Europe and elsewhere in the name of ISIS are carried out by "lone wolves" or "splinter cells."

Think of a huge meteor flying toward Earth. If you blow it up but don't change its trajectory, many smaller meteors still make landfall, and the overall damage could actually be worse.

The problem is, it isn't that simple.

Let's say you invade countries Afghanistan/Iraq style, you kill every terrorist you can find.

You're going to get some wrong. You're going to airstrike some civilians and execute some innocent people and such.

Some of the people who have their dads and their sons and daughters and wives die and radicalize. Creating more terrorists to kill. Ad infinitum.

It's a complex problem that needs complex answers. "Kill 'em all" might feel good emotionally but it doesn't really solve the problem.

Add in the splintering that was mentioned above making each group harder to find.

And the fact that these groups draw in your general murderous thugs and sociopaths.

It also doesn't deal with radical right-wing terrorism which kills a lot of people also - the McVeighs and sovereign citizen militia dudes of the world and such.
