I'm still planning our next Macaroni Fun Time. You bring the javelins, I'll bring the noodles.
Here's what it boils down to:

Black people: We want to have an event.
White people: Now hold on there. I need to write thousand word thinkpieces on your terminology.

No one cares about your opinion on this event. Or mine either.

Changing "space" to "slave" in the context of this discussion has to be one of the most unfortunate autocorrects I've ever been party to.

Okay, here's the succinct version since you won't consider other ideas.

One student does not constitute "black people." And a silly term is not "an event."

You disagree about the semantics, fine. But trying to make it a "racial thing" (despite the fact that these silly PC terms are criticized in other threads) just indicates the PC brow-beating that illustrates why honest conversations are difficult to have when "race" is involved.

I don't even remember the race of the female student who made the remark. The race is only an issue for you. I'm surprised that you didn't bring up gender, too.

To be honest, I expected this reaction; I just didn't know who would play it.

Re: Black students at Harvard to hold their own commencement

My university did this decades ago, as many have. Why is it this year that people are talking about it?

Probably because the internet was only a gleam in Al Gore's eye back then.
