I haven't had a hatred meter installed, if that is what you are asking. I donate to several charities, volunteer for various organizations, give blood, and have always voted to increase my own taxes in favor of greater social programs for those that need them (in the rare cases that the voters are allowed to directly choose). I'm not sure what any of that has to do with anything though. There is a huge hypocrisy in claiming to be so godly and good, while consistently voting to take social assistance programs away from those that need them. If it matters, I don't think anything I do is because I am good; I mostly do it because I like to think that should other people be in a position to help me out, they would also choose to do so. Not everyone has a family or other safety net to fall back on. Some people rely on the government to help get them out of bad situations that they may be in, some through no fault of their own. When you yank those programs away, you remove the best hope those people have to get back on their feet. That video of Al Fraken posted the other day really does sum things up well. I don't hate anyone, frankly it just takes up too much energy, but I do expect people to act consistent with who they claim they are and what they say they support.

It's great that evangelicals helped stopped slavery. That is entirely consistent with what I understand their stated goals to be. Can you explain how it is consistent that in recent history, they have voted against social programs that help the needy?

I just found out last night that the poorest schools in our school district are receiving millions of dollars for mentoring, tutoring, after school programs, etc. I dismissively laughed and said, "Yeah, who's paying for it?" Thinking it was tax dollars. Turns out its 19 churches in our community.

That's awesome. Do you know if there are any stipulations with the grant? Sometimes it can be great when outside organizations provide support for schools. Sometimes it can be a disaster, such as in Rockland County New York.
