Gave a few bucks to Kamala Harris.

That makes her, Beto and Mayor Pete.

She does need to tighten up her healthcare plan. I believe I support her on it. I “think” I get where she is going.

But why would she vote for him again. That is the question that needs answering (I got tired of trying to read the entire article due to the clicks and sign ups).

Does she have big money stocks/bonds/401k’s? And wants that to continue? Does she think calling Americans non-Americans worth it to keep others out?

Forget about Trump voters - go after those who voted third party and stayed home for whatever reason. In addition to that, there are young Americans every day who are now the required age to vote.

And there were more than a few who voted for trump because they were "never Hillary", who won't be voting for trump again, as the current Dem crop doesn't have her baggage. This round, trump's the one with the baggage. He's lucky he has a good economy (in spite of him trying to sabotage it), but otherwise, his presidency has been an absolute mess, and it'll be difficult to run on that record now, having to answer for all his bullshit.

Im not sure it’s about “record”. He had no record coming in, and HRC lost not because of her political record.

I do agree he has the baggage, but his base won’t care. As you say, those “never Hillary” voters it will. And, I think, those younger voters who believe in some things the Dems are for (gun control, single payer, etc). I’m an older white guy that believes in those, but think that’s more rare.

My strategy for any that go against Trump would be simple,

Push for single payer and/or gun control
Attack Trumps record, hard. His inability to do literally anything he said he would do,

They need to brand him as an "impotent leader". That would drive him nuts

ummm...Mayor Pete is “against” Medicare for all. I know he is saying it should be an option. This unfortunately shows a lack of understanding of how insurance works and options available. I also disagree on the “just throw a switch”. The ACA was a step in significant government involvement. And it worked.

When this all started, I was pulling for Mayor Pete and Beto. Had already stopped supporting Beto. Might be time for me to move on from Mayor Pete. Have recently give a bit to Harris.

I really like Mayor Pete. The more I heard, the more I liked. But healthcare is a big deal. As much as I dont generally believe in single issues being the end all be all, this is so important.

The only thing Dems should be doing, and only as a lower priority, to "appease" T voters is to show his utter incompetence in regard to things they, some of his most vocal voters, say they care about.
- guns
- family
- Jesus
- etc.

Get him to talk specifics, not just platitudes, and demonstrate how hopelessly clueless he is about the things they're passionate about, and I think it'd chip away at his base, ever so slightly. Don't make it a priority, but if folks are going to let him ramble on as he always does, make it be about a topic that shows his lack of basic understanding about those topics, not the things they generally don't care about in great detail either. Get him to talk about raising his children, or his favorite bible verses or church experiences, or the differences between shotguns and rifles. He doesn't have much of value to say on any topic, so it might as well be about topics that make him less relatable to his own base.

Kamala Harris won't fight for medicare for all either. If that's a priority you've got Warren or Bernie as the only ones who will fight for it.

Warren seems to have the momentum right now. I have concerns about her electability, but she is actually my favorite in terms of substance. One thing that she also has going for her is that she speaks from the heart. She sincerely wants to help working class and middle class people. I went ahead and contributed to her campaign, even though earlier on I had decided not to do so.

Harris is definitely calling for Medicare for All.

A lot of political experts are saying that the public option will garner the most votes. They think that Medicare for All will get less popular over the campaign as Republicans attack "socialism." That's probably true.

I'm OK with either Medicare for All or Medicare for All Who Want It.

Re: New! Improved! The 2020 Presidential Election Thread: It's Never Over! Edition

Here is my current ranking of candidates:

1. Buttigieg (He knows his stuff, and he is a good speaker. He would offer a good contrast with Trump. Unfortunately, his campaign appears to have stalled as he is not connecting with key groups.)
2. Harris (She is more progressive than Biden, and I think she can turn out the entire Democratic coalition.)
3. Warren (She is the best in terms of substance.)
4. Biden (He's OK. If older Americans and Black Americans nominate him, then I can live with him as the candidate.)

Sanders doesn't make my list. Again, he is a self-professed "socialist." That's political kryptonite in this country. If he's the Democratic nominee, I'll support him, but I don't think he's electable.

Everybody else should just drop out -- like yesterday. They are dead in the water.

It's already begun. I already saw an ad on tv last night about medicare for all ruining this country. It wasn't tied to any candidate, just an ad bought and paid for by insurance companies.

This is where Bernie somewhere on the ticket is the strongest option. I think everyone else will just fold on the issue. He's doing a solid job turning the focus to corporate socialism for the rich.

Medicare for All is never going to pass the Senate in 2021-2025. I don't care if the president is Bernie, Biden, or anyone else. If that's your single issue, prepare to be disappointed.

Don't get me wrong -- I'm all in favor of a president who uses the bully pulpit to push the country left on healthcare. But I think it's important not to lose sight of the forest for the trees and make a litmus test out of allegiance to an idea that is never going to go anywhere anyway.

I agree. The public option is the best we can hope for, and that's pretty unlikely to happen as well.

While I don’t really disagree, I think a public option will garner more votes as people don’t understand what that means.

Here is my take, the GOP will push Medicare for all/single payer as extreme. But the DNC should push that’s its extreme to support people getting free medical as they do now. The DNC should push that it’s extreme to not not want all to pay for health (as they would under a single payer). That it’s extreme to let 40,000 people die a year due to lack of healthcare. That it’s extreme to not want all covered.

Its not “left” to want people not to die due to lack of healthcare. Its not left to want all people to pay for healthcare.

To suggest so, is a lie the GOP is promoting..

It reminds me of my grandmother who held on to her huge Cadillac till she could no longer drive. Why? Because she didn’t want to buy a car the government forced her to have seatbelts. That was socialist to her.

Ehh look at her back tracking on how she answered the question about it at the last debate. Lester Holt said he was going to ask the same question that was asked the previous night which I'll note was THE most widely talked about question the previous night so if anyone on the stage did not know what he was referring to they either did not watch the debate (very unlikely) or have a team that didn't prep them for the most widely talked about question from the previous night (impossible). Holt then in fairness did butcher the question a bit and asked who would abolish their private insurance and Harris raised her hand signifying to those who are watching that she was for medicare for all. The next day Harris back tracked and said she was confused and thought Holt meant who would abolish their own personal private insurance and choose a medicare option for themselves personally. That answer makes no sense. No one talks about "Abolishing" anything in their personal life. I'm changing from Bank of America to a credit union. I'm not "Abolishing" my connection to Bank of America. No one talks that way. Harris was disingenuous and playing games with what she wants people to think and what she puts out there. Someone who is very clearly for Medicare for all doesn't play these games. Theyre very straight forward.
