Actually, I did Wiki it, and Star Trek had an episode with a place for people to commit suicide. But the booths on every corner was Futurama.

I've been expecting protests, riots, looting and 'White Live Matter', chants ... but nothing

I'm just glad we was not shot by a cop. We do not need anymore riots.

There's a reason we have guns; a reason they were invented, and a reason the NRA doesn't simply say "Oh, you want to ban guns? No problem. We'll just use knives instead." When that purpose is turned toward evil, it is disingenuous in the extreme to then begin pretending that a gun is no different from a knife.
If he made a crockpot and blew them up in their vehicles, would you be protesting outside Walmart, "CROCKPOTS KILL!"

I think we all know why guns were invented. But most of us get guns for non-murder purposes.

And just what would those non-murder purposes be? Self defense? You defend yourself by killing someone. Hunting? That's the murder of an animal. Name one purpose of a gun that doesn't involve killing.

Killing is not wrong. It's the motive behind that killing.

No it's not. Murder, by definition, is the killing of a human.

I shot at some paper targets last month with my AR-15.
So far no charges have been filed against me by the rest of the targets in the batch of 50 I bought.

I stand corrected. It's the killing of an animal... same result.

Shot at targets for what purpose... to improve your aim when you shoot someone.

I agree. The screening process doesn't seem stringent enough. They only look for a criminal record.

On the one hand people want more background checks, but on the other hand people would be very uncomfortable if the background check searched their medical history for prescription drugs that treat mental illness or searched for a history of incarceration or treatment for mental disorders.

And often that wouldn't be enough. We've had situations where family members of mentally ill people have been in denial of their loved one's problem and bought guns for them. I think that's what happened in the Sandyhook situation.

So you assume anyone who buys a gun, does it for the sole purpose to shoot and kill? WHAT THE FUCK!? What asinine thinking is that shit.

My personal preference would be "wait to see what went wrong" before prescribing solutions to fix it. Was this a shooting that pre-existing measures should have prevented, like some of the others we've seen? Because fixing those measures instead of passing even more laws would be my preference then.

But I'm realistic, so I think my offered timeframe was to just "wait for the bodies to stop bleeding." It didn't seem like such an onerous burden at the time.

We've had knee jerk legislation passed in New York in the wake of Sandy Hook. Of course, it was poorly designed (e.g. they forgot to exclude the magazines used by law enforcement), but why would you take a reasoned, deliberate, or careful approach when meddling with Constitutional rights? All the best legislation comes from striking while the iron is hot. That's why the Patriot Act has been so enduringly popular for the past 14 years. You can't fail so long as you "do something*" (as if we're "doing nothing" now).

It says something about the argument when one said says, "let's wait a little bit until we can calm down and look at this rationally", and the other side rejects that notion with "but we'll never get our way" then.

What are we waiting for, exactly? Is it too soon for a national discussion about gun control in relation to Aurora yet? Is Sandy Hook still too fresh on our minds? What about Columbine? Can we look at that rationally yet, or do we need to delay just a bit longer?

It says something about the argument when one side says, "Hey, this keeps happening in our country but no other civilized first-world country on the planet, why don't we at least consider trying some changes that might prevent future tragedies?" and the other side rejects that notion with "TOO SOON, WE CAN'T TALK ABOUT IT YET" stonewalling every time.

But I'm realistic, so I think my offered timeframe was to just "wait for the bodies to stop bleeding." It didn't seem like such an onerous burden at the time.
They already stopped bleeding, because they're dead. Forever. From gunshot wounds.

Good point, because that's exactly what I said...

You'd have to be really obtuse to not want to understand how one thing happens before the other.

You said that we can't defend against crazy, especially suicidal crazy, citing 9/11 as an example. And yet, we've made changes since 9/11 to better protect ourselves.
