What is the reason girls/women choose to carry and keep a baby they can't afford?

So I'm flipping channels and come across that 16 and pregnant show on MTV…

As a guy, I simply cannot relate to women and girls' decisions to carry a pregnancy to term and keep a baby they have no ability to provide or care for.
I can guess the usual religious reasons, and I'll still disagree with them. There is nothing endangered about the human species, we have more than enough on our planet. I can guess the biological reasons, which is a cop-out because we recognize rape as wrong, and expect human beings to be able to have self control. Is there an internal switch that overrides any logic or reason?
If they do want children, what's wrong with waiting until you're financially ready? Why do so many think they're all going to be the exception to the rule?

Attention is not anywhere near a good enough reason.

I'm being honest with what I ask; there's a part of me that thinks there is some hormone released that overrides any other decision?

Could society perhaps celebrate procreating with less enthusiasm as it has in the past? Not the act, but the consequences.

Re: What is the reason girls/women choose to carry and keep a baby they can't afford?

Simple, they get attached to the baby while being pregnant and don't want to give it up.

Probably some think that if they keep the baby, the baby-daddy will want to stay with her and they can be a family.

I could see a few friends being pregnant at the same time and they all want the baby because everyone else is doing it.

Because sex is awesome. And many (most?) young people don't understand how pregnancy and birth-control works.

Some girls possess the fear or cold self-preservational instinct to abort. And some girls don't have the heart. Heart and emotion trumps any religious rhetoric.

And because it's doable. It's not the end of the world to be a pregnant teenager. It just siphons off your Twittering and cell phone time.

Re: What is the reason girls/women choose to carry and keep a baby they can't afford?

Unfortunately, in the politically correct world of 2014, no answer you could possibly suggest would be entertained, other than "They should."

All of your points are excellent, especially the ones about waiting until being emotionally responsible and financially ready. In a world of Obama's ways, and the ACA, and a free ride being accepted and 'expected' what have these girls got to lose? People will support them, accepting their burden as a matter of course. It's the thing to do in the liberal world of 2014 USA.

One answer may be "Maternal instinct" and the nurturing argument, but in the end analysis these also are social constructs.

Because they are stupid and selfish! There! I said it!

Isn't teen pregnancy at an all-time low? Most teen girls don't get pregnant.

Is that true?

Got to credit free porn and Google. Eight year olds can learn stuff I didn't understand until I was 20.

Good porn is world peace.
