Well, in the upcoming election, they can elect more republicans to the house and senate. With less congressional support, they may be able to force the president into concessions. Note I said concessions, not capitulation to threats.

I really think you need to step back from some of the insane rhetoric surrounding Obamacare. Even if it is a disaster, it will not destroy the country overnight.

Were fed workers who stayed home able to collect unemployment benefits already? I thought it didn't kick in until after six weeks?

Yes, the GOP offered to pass a bill to mitigate the damages that was giving them the worst press. How generous of them. Ignoring the rest of the damage they were causing was akin to saying "Let them eat cake" as a solution.

Those results came from a Harris poll in 2010.

(As an aside, the bullet points in Navinabob's post are word for word the same as those in the blog post. I don't know about anyone else, but it seemed to me that they were presented as Navinabob's own words, and not a copy+paste quote from someone else. That's mildly disturbing; how often am I reading his words and how often am I reading someone else's words presented as his own? If you are quoting someone else, please make that clear.)
Wait... You got the impression that I did the poll myself? Of course they were not "my words". My words were the editorial portion above and below those statistics (as summarized in the link you provided). I figured people would like some of the few key points pulled from the poll and I didn't think "item = percentage" required much in the way of a rewrite

Call me out if I don't cite my is fine, I'll happily do so (as I ask others too), but if your reading comprehension is so muddled that have trouble following along it's not responsibility to coddle to you.

It was particularly the "scariest of all" quote that caught my attention. That wasn't reporting the results of a poll, that was clearly an editorial opinion. Without noting that you're quoting someone else, it makes it appear that that is both your opinion and your word choice. When I Googled to find the source of the poll, and came across someone else using the exact same language, it was unexpected to me.

I'm sorry that you took offense to my attempt at constructive criticism, and your choice to insult me in return, I'll make a note to avoid trying to interact with you in the future.

Edited to add: For the record, I think you should have included the source of the quote regarding the statistics even if there wasn't an editorial comment embedded within them. As evidenced by the link that you provided to the poll, there were many more questions included than the 4 you mentioned. The selection of which 4 questions to highlight is an editorial decision in its own right, and the natural assumption without any other context is that the editorial choice was made by you, and we can place that selection in the context of what we know about you as a poster. Knowing that those were chosen by someone else, with a different agenda, changes my perspective. I guess I just always err on the side of citing the source of any material I'm using, especially if it is a direct quote.

The waiting period is 1 week for DC. So I got one week of unemployment, which I will be required to repay since the deal included back pay for the furlough time.

Fair enough. I honestly didn't process "scariest of all" as I was just intending to post the percentage, but when I got the page I saw some of the other numbers pulled out from the poll and figured I'd just copy the bulk of it for context it can be compared to.

I didn't intend to "plagiarize" as you suggested (and that I do it often). If you notice, before I included the statistic I wrote: "I suspect the percentage of Democrats that think Obamacare is free healthcare is less that the percentage of Republicans that think Obama is the Antichrist." The "scariest of all" bit is clearly redundant and doesn't make much sense to reveal it like that.

Normally we don't treat the board like a research paper, that and we've discussed the study, and that editorial article specifically, (since I bookmarked it after it was posted here) several times in the politics section. The Antichrist bit isn't something I'm introducing here like I would as a thread starting post, or if I was challenging what someone else said.

Could I have cited the source? Sure... But you were still out of line.

  • Scariest of all, 24 percent of Republicans (14 percent overall) say that Obama "may be the Antichrist."

Both parties are completely off their rockers. Both parties are getting so extreme, it's like reading from a DC cartoon. Let's face it, most voters are just idiots, and WANT something to believe in, and NEED someone to believe in.

And what's more pathetic, is most voters just want to be lazy and stupid. They don't want to think anymore.

However, what is kinda funny, is we have religious folk listening to their political leaders for advice and direction, when God should be the one they should be respecting.

Hell is going to be using a lottery system if this keeps up.

How is the Democratic Party getting more extreme?

Look, both parties are corporate whores who support the status quo, for the most part. But to say that two days after a minority far-right fringe almost managed to have the US government default on its financial obligations because they didn't like a LAW, is ridiculous.

US debt is in the form of US Treasury Bonds, correct? US Treasury Bonds are the backbone of the world economy, correct? (It seems that is the no-brainer "safe" investment used by investors the world over). So how would dramatically reducing our debt effect the world economy? And if the US defaulted, what would scared investors invest in?

So why do the government workers who didn't come into work during the furlough get back pay?
