Re: Are the US and Russia in a "cool war?"
Looks like the US is looking to hit back against Russia for the recent cyber hacks.
The US is reportedly considering a cyberattack to 'embarrass' Russia over alleged hacking
The US is reportedly considering a cyberattack to 'embarrass' Russia over alleged hacking
The US is considering a plan to retaliate against Russia for its role in alleged cyberattacks that have plagued the Democratic Party, NBC News reported Friday.
CIA officials say the Obama administration requested options for a "clandestine" cyberattack designed to "embarrass" the Kremlin, according to NBC News sources.
The move comes after the US formally accused Russia last week of executing cyberattacks to interfere with the US presidential election.
The hacks have largely targeted people and entities associated with the Democratic Party.
The fallout from a hack that exposed emails from Democratic National Committee members forced Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz to announce her resignation just before the party's convention in July. Nancy Pelosi, the House minority leader, has called the breaches "an electronic Watergate break-in" and a "sad course of events" for the party and the nation.
Information gleaned from those security breaches has been published by WikiLeaks and, at times, cited by Donald Trump, the Republican presidential nominee.

Biden when asked if the public would know about it, said hope not. So how exactly would Russia be embarrassed then

I'm glad that they want to threaten retaliation and ramp up the hostile atmosphere over Russia's leaking of fabricated emails. There's no way that they would engage in such risky business if the leaks were just revealing the truth about the inner workings of the DNC/Clinton machine, because no one would accuse Russia of trying to "influence the elections" simply for revealing the truth.
After all, the Obamas & Clintons are 100% behind "transparency." It's their opponents who are always four-square in the "secrecy" camp.
And no way that any other leaks might be trying to influence the election.
Washington Journal's morning call-in segment was devoted to Biden's pronouncement and U.S. threats (actually, promise) to engage in cyber attacks on Russian interests. Some interesting Russian tv ads were shown advising Russian citizens how to prepare for nuclear war were aired as a result of Biden's comments.
