Is God A Moral Monster?

In this hour-long presentation, Dr. Frank Turek touches on many different points regarding moral arguments against the God of the Bible. Some of these questions include...
  • If there's no God, why is anything right or wrong?
  • Can morality ever be legislated for any reason?
  • Why is it okay for us to "play God", but wrong when He does it?
  • Can the Creator of all life commit murder?
  • Has God ever commanded genocide?
  • Was the United States really founded on Christianity?
  • Why is there a huge perceived difference with God, between the Old and New Testaments?

The last 20 minutes or so contains questions from the audience.

I'm not going to watch that video, but I will say that if any human acted the way god did, they'd be locked away forever.

Morality is subjective.

I generally avoid these threads, but that's all I have to say.

Is it time for a religion subforum?

Having read the Bible, I can come to no other conclusion that God is a ****.

God creates the human race, makes them fallible, sets impossibly high expectations for them, then will punish them forever and ever unless they grovel before Him.

God is petty, needy, and jealous. He's like your nightmare ex-girlfriend.

God kills off nearly the entire human race because He's angry with them.

God commands Joshua to commit an act of genocide and slaughter.

God fucks with Job to see if there's anything he can do to the poor son of a bitch that will make him turn his back on Him.

God rapes and impregnates a woman so she can give him a Son, which he abandons. Dead beat dad.

I can come to other conclusion that God is either a colossal asshole or the creation of a primitive, bronze-age people. Either way, he is undeserving of belief or worship.

How about thinking for yourself and not letting others do it for you?

I've seen moviefan's answers. He's got answers in droves. What he lacks are meaningful questions.

I do think for myself, but I'm not arrogant to believe all my answers are right. No human being has all the answers; that's God's job. Most of my posts are attempts to answer specific questions, or point out logical flaws in those which don't make sense.

What standard are you using for the word "meaningful"?

Re: Is God A Moral Monster?

I've yet to see you come across a question you don't have some neat (albeit often wrong) answer for. This leads me to believe you are asking the wrong questions.

My point being, if you want to discuss religion and various topics, have at it. You'll get lots of discussion about YOUR points of view. But using this forum as your personal pulpit to shill for your chosen belief system is getting old and causing people to move on...

Giving Adam & Eve a paradise and telling them they can eat off any tree except one. They go and eat off the tree God told not to, because they believed the serpent (Satan) that tells them what God told them is not true that they would die if they eat off that tree. If you read the Bible funny how you didn't get any bad vibes about Satan but of God you did.

Which of my claims have been proven wrong on a visually observable and testable basis?
