Mother Dying of Cancer Gives a Godly, Life Changing Final Speech

Rachel Barkley passed away in 2009 from multiple cancers...yet in this video, she stood firm in her faith against extremely tough circumstances. This message is a true inspiration, and everyone should see it at least once.

I should, but I won't.

I know there is a reason why I have you on ignore, so thankfully I have no idea what you are talking about.

While I fell badly for the woman (or any other innocent suffering any disease), her conclusory statements only serve to preach to the choir (no pun intended). The video is more preachy than inspiring.

This video encapsualtes everything that is wrong with Christianity. It's a sickening mixture of self-satisfaction, self-pity, and self-loathing.

If you want to see someone confront their mortality, you would be much better served watching Randy Paush's Last Lecture:

Much longer, but much more valuable than the OP's video.

I'm glad that works for her. Although there are plenty of non-believers in similar situations who are just as uplifting in their lives and to those around them as she is.

Some people have strong religious beliefs. Good for them. Some of us approach life from different perspective. I have nothing against this woman, but these videos don't interest me because religious belief doesn't speak to me on an intellectual or emotional level. I just don't 'get' it.

I see we've graduated from derailing existing threads to starting threads to preach from.

An outstanding speech with a far more relevant message for everyone.

Does anyone here know the administrators at christianchat.com? We need to persuade them to unban Moviefan on their site so he can take these threads there.

Re: Mother Dying of Cancer Gives a Godly, Life Changing Final Speech

Only watched until she started on the religious bandwagon, but if thats how she chooses to receive solace in the last few weeks of her life thats her choice. Personally when the end nears for me i am going to spend it (hopefully have the chance anyway) with my friends, family and loved ones. Not thanking some imaginary character for the life i have had, but thanking the people who truly gave me a life to be thankful for. When my father died of cancer 2 years ago i sat and watched him slowly slip away for 6 hours. He was coherent right until the end and at no point did he or the rest of my family feel the need to bring any religion into it. We were happy to be there in his final moments and he told each of us how much he loved us all. I only hope that i have final moments like that.

And that's a good thing. Threads about celebrity gossip can coexist comfortably with threads about Christianity. I just don't like it when someone tries to make all threads about the same topic.

Re: Mother Dying of Cancer Gives a Godly, Life Changing Final Speech

Her delivery sounds just like Chloe in Fight Club.

ETA:
I stopped at the sentence, "I am not a good person, and I do not deserve better."

That's a succinct description of Christian philosophy. It's one of the reasons I left the church. You wouldn't marry someone who insisted that you believed that about yourself. In my world, that's spousal abuse and emotional abuse. I've seen what happens to women who were in that kind of relationship. Why worship a god who treats you that way?

Re: Mother Dying of Cancer Gives a Godly, Life Changing Final Speech

I have been trying to think of any image, article or video tagged "life changing" that has actually changed my life.

Can't think of any.

Goofus and Gallant has had more effect on my life than this sort of thing.

I'm dying, but I deserve it because I'm a piece of shit who does horrible things like get angry because I can't pick up my five year old daughter due to the cancer in my spine. Shame on me for being so evil, but thank goodnessw that God loves me so much he sent Jesus to die for me, which I totally do not deserve. Then God is going to resurrect me and everything will be so much better, so hooray!

She died over four years ago. Clearly her speech wasn't inspirational enough to cause you to look up anything about her prior to posting it.

Nothing wrong with drawing inspiration from an old source. It's only four years old. Dialogue between a Priest and a Dying Man is over two hundred years old, and it's just as relevant today.
