Call Up Hawkeye and Klinger -- Korean War Ready to Resume

Those who know their history are probably aware that the Korean War never officially ended -- North and South signed a cease-fire, not a full-on peace treaty. Well, North Korea is officially withdrawing from the armistice and is threatening to nuke people if the UN doesn't allow them to import race cars.

SEOUL An enraged North Korea responded to new UN sanctions with fresh threats of nuclear war on Friday, vowing to scrap peace pacts with South Korea as it upped the ante yet again after its recent atomic test.

Pyongyang is renowned for its bellicose rhetoric, but the tone has reached a frenzied pitch in recent days, fuelling concerns of a border clash with both North and South planning major military exercises next week.

It has even threatened a "pre-emptive nuclear attack" against the United States and South Korea -- a notion dismissed as bluster by analysts, but not without dangerous, underlying intent.

North Korea "abrogates all agreements on non-aggression reached between the North and the South", the state-run Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea (CPRK) said Friday.

The CPRK said the pacts would be voided as of Monday, the same day that Pyongyang has vowed to rip up the 1953 armistice agreement that ended Korean War hostilities.

It also announced the immediate severing of a North-South hotline installed in 1971.

State television, meanwhile, showed North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un laying preparations for "all-out war" as he visited a frontline military unit involved in the shelling of a South Korean island in 2010.
Seems like the usual bluster, and the Chinese will probably smack them down before Monday, but still.

Well, on the brighter side if they do start nuking Seoul I guess my Starcraft ranking will go up.

China has control of NK like we have control over Israel. We get along, but they ultimately do what they want.

I'm far from an expert, but I don't think North Korea has withdrawn from the armistice, they've reneged on non-aggressive pacts with South Korea.

Thanks, I missed that, and the other articles I've read on this don't mention anything about the armistice being voided. Seems to me that North Korea can "vow" to leave the armistice all they want but they'll never do it.

The last country divided by the cold war. I hope that they can reunite soon. I can only imagine the economic hardship that Korea will have, given what Germany had to go through. I hope this seperation does not become permanant.

At this point there is no conceivable way that a Korean unification can occur without costing South Korea trillions of dollars and dragging their economy down for years.

I know, and the longer it takes the higher the cost. It would be a shame for the Korean people if this artificial divide became permanant.

Aren't all boarders an artificial divide?

I thought you were a fan of boarders as long as they were paying your exorbitant rent prices?

Isn't "exorbitant" a subjective term?

If something were to happen to Kim Jong-Un who would be in charge of N. Korea? I don't believe he has children does he?

"Exorbitant" may be a subjective term, but "meth lab" isn't.

Okay. I'm seeing it. Someone get Mike Nichols and Kevin Costner on the phone. Call Barry Levinson if Mike is busy.

Funny, that's how Israel feels about us.

I'm not familiar with that term. Looking it up, around here we call them "profit centers."

They know they need us more than we need them. But they also know that we are a fickle bunch with leadership that changes much too rapidly for their future planning capacity.

I did not know that the North Koreans had a powerful lobby in China.

I honestly don't know why China has been so friendly to them over the years. I don't see any benefit to China.

What's the North Korean equivalent of a knish and stuffed cabbage?
