24 year old male gunman, died at the scene. Used two 9mm handguns. Officials say around 20 children were shot, news reports are just coming in. All I can say is What.The.Fuck.

Shooter seems to be dead.

A shooting at a Connecticut elementary school this morning prompted the town of Newton to lock down all of its schools and drew SWAT teams to the school, authorities said today.

A gunman has been killed, authorities told ABC News.

The shooting occurred at the Sandy Creek Elementary School in Newtown, about 12 miles east of Danbury.

A photo from the scene shows a line of distressed children being led out of the school.

Newton Public School District secretary of superintendent Kathy June said in a statement that the district's school were locked down because of the report of a shooting. "The district is taking preventive measures by putting all schools in lockdown until we ensure the safety of all students and staff."

State police sent SWAT team units to Newtown.

All public and private schools in the town are on lockdown.

State emergency management officials said ambulances and other units were also en route and staging near the school.

A message on the school district website says that all afternoon kindergarten is cancelled today and there will be no mid-day bus runs.

I want to know why. Was this a disgruntled employee or someone close to be school? It's hard enough when students bring weapons to school, but for a 20 year old to shoot children? Ridiculous.

Watching the reports, it saddens me when they are interviewing these 7-10 year olds talking about it. Not the interview itself, but that these children were involved in something this despicable.

These early reports tend to be unreliable. That's certainly possible, but would make him a very young father of an elementary school kid. It would have to be kindergarten, first grade maybe. Plenty of young fathers out there now I guess.

The USA needs to step up and get rid of millions and millions of guns on the streets. With guns people get reckless. That's the problem. We are a nation that is not united with wars within our schools. So now we are teaching our kids that guns are easily accessible.
