I like Santorum. He wasn't phony trying to be someone else.

I like Santorum. He's batshit crazy and demonstrates how many people in that party are also batshit crazy.

Re: The 2016 Presidential Election thread

We may have our first official candidate soon!

Sarah Palin is out as a Fox News Channel contributor

NEW YORK — Fox News Channel is parting ways with former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, ending her three-year tenure as a contributor on the network.

While Palin’s time at Fox was occasionally rocky, the network’s news executive, Bill Shine, said Friday that “we have thoroughly enjoyed our association” with her.

“We wish her the best in her future endeavors,” said Shine, Fox’s executive vice president for programming.

A person familiar with discussions between Fox and Palin described the parting as amicable, saying that Fox and Palin had discussed renewing her contract but she decided to do other things. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak on the record.
She should be good for some interesting soundbites. She's high profile enough that she'll be an early frontrunner, but will probably fade pretty quickly once people actually cast ballots.

She'll continue to do her best to destroy the Republican party. Are we sure she really is a Repub?

Judging by the hearing last week, Hillary Clinton will have little Marco Rubio fetching his shinebox before long.

Re: The 2016 Presidential Election thread

I would love nothing more than to have Palin run. She is so oblivious to the world outside her little bubble (similar to many far Right Repubs), that it'll be a lot of fun to hear her say a bunch of ignorant shit. But on the other hand, it'll lessen our political discourse. Even further, as if that were possible...

It would make Rick Santorum look like a viable choice.

If that's what it does, then I truly, truly, welcome a Palin candidacy.

I'm sure the GOP is happy this is going viral. So who else they got?

I wouldn't count Rubio out. Sure, we all got a laugh out of Zero Dark Thirsty, but in the grand scheme of things, he took an awkward sip of water during a speech and was good-natured when made fun of about it. It's not going to appreciably damage his chances.

Re: The 2016 Presidential Election thread

Rubio is a lightweight. He wouldn't even survive a GOP primary much less beat Hillary Clinton. Substantively, there is nothing there except a baby face and a Hispanic name. He believes all of the same things that Mitt Romney believed.

There's another light weight I can remember. He was elected president and re-elected president.

The problem with the above person is that he doesn't believe in The Constitution.

Re: The 2016 Presidential Election thread

I'm having trouble thinking of anybody in either party that Hillary won't run circles around...unless you think the Republicans can milk Benghazi for another 4 years. I'd actually be surprised if she got more than token competition in a Democratic primary.

On the Republican side, it almost has to be a Governor given the view of congress...or Paul Ryan, who is sort of the status quo.

- I don't think Palin actually wants the job.
- Santorum and Bachmann will run and both will embarrass themselves but not be embarrassed
- Rubio has been exposed as a lightweight
- Ditto Rick Perry but worse
- Christie could probably compete, but R's might have hard feelings after he torpedoed Romney
- Jindal is probably too moderate
- Jon Huntsman is definitely too moderate
- Jeb has the wrong last name...but also the right last name depending on your point of view
- Based on Republican voting patterns over decades, I'd bet on Paul Ryan

In the modern Republican party, that is moderate.

The fact that Palin, Bachmann and Santorum are even in the discussion illustrates that fact. That's a serious clown car right there.

Weird that you say that Christie could probably compete, but Jindal and Huntsman are too moderate???

I predict Bush.

Re: The 2016 Presidential Election thread

Christie is moderate in a Mavericky way...Jindal and Huntsman are perceived as uppity intellectuals, and TEA Party don't like no intellectuals.

Agree that JEB is a likely choice.

Only you could deduce that the bios of those two people were similar and equal. Not even saying anything about their individual charisma.

She'll be 69 by the time the election takes place; I doubt she'll even be able to jog in circles around anyone, and there's no way other Dems will just stand aside for someone of that age.

Re: The 2016 Presidential Election thread

Sigh, President Hillary Clinton. How depressing. She wont be another Bill. He had to change because he didnt have the public support for Liberal policies. Unfortunatley that is not the case any more. She will be a continuation of Obama. If you like that good for you. It sure sucks if you dont.
