Re: The 2016 Presidential Election thread
I was wondering when the political machine was going to go medieval on Trump.
And "scalp reduction surgery to remove a bald spot"?
By the way, Michael Cohen, the asshat quoted in the article - have you seen this jackass on cable news? He's apparently Trump's spokesman. Oh wait a minute, Go Trump! Make America Great Again!

I'd like to hear a clarification from Trump's ex-wife on this. If she now says that he really did rape her, that's enough for me to not vote for him.

“I have recently read some comments attributed to me from nearly 30 years ago at a time of very high tension during my divorce from Donald. The story is totally without merit. Donald and I are the best of friends and together have raised three children that we love and are very proud of. I have nothing but fondness for Donald and wish him the best of luck on his campaign. Incidentally, I think he would make an incredible president.”

Re: The 2016 Presidential Election thread
“You cannot rape your spouse. And there’s very clear case law.”
Yes, like this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marita..._States_law%29
The 17th-century English jurist, Sir Matthew Hale, stated the position of the common law in The History of the Pleas of the Crown (1736) that a husband cannot be guilty of the rape of his wife because the wife "hath given up herself in this kind to her husband, which she cannot retract".
Only trouble is:
The principle, no record of which is found earlier than Hale's view, would continue to be accepted as a statement of the law in England and Wales until it was overturned by the House of Lords in the case of R. v. R in 1991,[1] where it was described as an anachronistic and offensive legal fiction.
The legal history of marital rape laws in the United States is a long and complex one, that spans over several decades. The criminalization of marital rape in the United States started in the mid-1970s and by 1993 marital rape became a crime in all 50 states, under at least one section of the sexual offense codes.
And this Michael Cohen character is a lawyer?

"As an attorney, husband and father there are many injustices that offend me but nothing more than charges of rape or racism. They hit me at my core."
Translation: I hate a lot of things, but most of all, it's when a white man gets accused of wrongdoing.
What a douchebag.

So Ivana denies he actually, literally raped her even though she said he did in a deposition. Regardless of whether he did or not, it will have no legal consequences for Trump although there may be political fallout.

You posted while I was writing my post.

So he apologized. That doesn't negate the fact that he said something demonstrably false (and, I would say, evil) and that even your average layperson probably knows is false, and he should have known better, especially as a lawyer.

What's wrong with what they said? They just said what the rest of American was too chicken shit to say. #amirite #Trump

Thanks.
I'm still not voting for Trump, but if I had been planning to vote for him, I would still be planning to vote for him.
.
I was saying that if I had been planning to vote for him (which I never was), and if his wife had confirmed that he had raped her, then that would have made me not vote for him.

Re: The 2016 Presidential Election thread
Just a week away from the first debate, in Cleveland, and there is some more immigration and crime news for Trump, coming out of the Cleveland area. Yesterday, a suspected illegal immigrant attempted to rape one of his teenage relatives. While evading authorities he murdered a 60 year old woman in her home, and then shot another women on a walking/bike trail behinds the first victim's home. The walking trail is very popular and usually quite busy on nice days. The woman who was shot was with her two young children. Luckily she escaped with only a wounded arm. After a search, and possible gunfire with the police, the suspect was apprehended and arraigned earlier today.
The kicker, the suspect was stopped a few weeks ago after reports of suspicious behaviour, but local authorities never received any orders back from border patro, so he was simply let go.
This is about 30 mile east of Cleveland, and fairly close to my home.
By the way, the reporting on this incident has been terribly confusing.

A new, fairly thorough, CNN poll has Sanders out-polling all of the GOP's major candidates, though pretty much tied with Jeb Bush.
And while Trump has high enough favorability numbers to lead among the GOP candidates, his overall UNfavorability numbers are by far the highest. In a general election, he will get destroyed.
SANDERS: 48%
BUSH: 47%

WALKER: 42%

And the same is true of Sanders. Neither has a chance.

Re: The 2016 Presidential Election thread
One could as easily say, if it comes down to Hulk Hogan and Caitlyn Jenner, one of them has to win.
I fully realize the difference is that Trump and Sanders are actually running, but they have about as little chance of the nomination as Hogan or Jenner.

First, in the "you have no chance, pal" department:
Christie to Colorado: Pot party ends with me
Inside Rand Paul's downward spiral
And over in the real world:

All this drama when everyone knows it will be Clinton vs Bush (with a possible upset by Kasich).
And no doubt other Repubs feel the same.

Deez Nuts joins 2016 presidential race
By Kellan Howell - The Washington Times - Tuesday, July 28, 2015
Just when it seemed the 2016 presidential race couldn’t get any more crowded, or colorful, another oddball candidate has put in a bid for the White House — under the name Deez Nuts.
Mr. Nuts is running as an independent from Iowa and filed his candidacy Sunday with the Federal Election Committee.
The presidential campaign committee “Deez Nuts for President 2016” is registered in Wallingford, Iowa, the smallest hometown of all the presidential hopefuls with a population of 197.
Over 500 people have filed their 2016 candidacy with the FEC so far. Among the candidates, 80 are Democrats, 127 are Republicans, 135 independents and 12 libertarians. Fifteen candidates have not declared a party affiliation, while numerous others chose to write in their own.
At least one furry friend — a cat from Kentucky named Limberbutt McCubbins — has entered the race as well. His candidacy was filed by his owner, 17-year-old Isaac Weiss, CBS News reported.
