Ever heard the saying "don't bring a knife to a gunfight"? Probably goes double for hands and feet.

the letter:

Gotta admit I can't really read it. It's that fancy style slanted cursive. My mom and grand-aunt writes like that. But it does seem like the witness didn't even write it. Nancy Grace says give her a break, but it's also reported that the witness tweeted about getting high and her 'court nails'.... I mean, seriously.

Looking good for GZ so far.

Damn! You sound like you hate all cops. Had some poor experiences with the police in the past?

You haven't forgotten that this is Florida. You haven't forgotten the Casey Anthony trial. You're assuming that the jury (all from Florida) is smarter than Rachel Jeantel. (I know it's quite a stretch than anyone couldn't be smarter than Rachel Jeantel, but, again, this is Florida.)

I'd say it's still a toss-up.

Seems pretty legible to me, although a lifetime of being forced to read my own horrible handwriting has trained me well.

Because he stopped him from getting his head repeatedly smashed into the ground. What's he supposed to do lay there and let it happen?

Assuming that Zimmerman did believe his life was in danger, does the fact that he initiated the sequence of events that lead to a fight mean that his right to defend himself is no longer valid?

Hypothetical situation A: I'm at a bar. I see a cute girl. I'm caught checking her out for about a half a second. Her boyfriend gets really jealous and thinks I'm trying to steal his girl. At closing time, in an empty parking lot with no other witnesses, he starts kicking my ass. I legitimately fear for my life.

Hypothetical situation B: I'm at a bar. I see a cute girl. I walk over and while I think I'm charming, I say some nasty, explicit things to her. Her boyfriend is outraged that anybody would say such disgusting things to a stranger in public. At closing time, in an empty parking lot with no other witnesses, he starts kicking my ass. I legitimately fear for my life.

Are my legal options of self defense different in these two situations? Is there a legal policy of "he started it" that says in situation A, I can fight back, while in situation B, I just have to stay there and accept my whoopin?

It's hard for me to get around the fact that Zimmerman brought ALL of this on himself. He had the gun, he was told to "stand down", yet he continued to pursue.

It would have been a much more satisfying conclusion had the gun been turned on GZ... and he turned up DEAD.

Either way, this wannabe asshat cop has destroyed his life.

So after the book deal.... there's always that.

No it doesn't, but the question will always be did he need to use lethal force to defend himself. I personally don't believe that he did, but there's enough reasonable doubt, so I think it will end up like this:

First: Zimmerman acquitted of criminal charges because there's too much reasonable doubt. Chaos ensues.
Second: Martin family files wrongful death suit against Zimmerman, and wins. That should be a no-brainer, as it is clear Zimmerman's poor decisions let to whatever confrontation happened and Martin's death.

I don't believe his head was being smashed into the ground. He probably fell on his back and hit his head when, being the pussy he is, he started losing a fight with a 17 year old kid.
Of course I'm just speculating, as are you and everyone else.

And unless we have technology to extract information from GZ's brain, it will always be just that, a "question."

I'd like to think we don't throw people in jail or put them on death row because of a "question."

I can't get around the fact that if Martin had just left the scene instead of trying to be a tough guy thug by charging and attacking Zimmerman, this never would have happened.

Right, which is why he will be acquitted, as I've repeatedly said.

So one of the witnesses heard someone yell "you're gonna die tonight motherfucker". The statement Simmerman gave said Martin said those same words. I'd say that's a good point for the defense. Or will the prosecutor say that Zimmerman lied and those were his words and not Martin's?

That line still sounds like something from an 80s action movie.

ACTUALLY it's lyrics from a CMurder song that Trayvon liked (an artist he liked)

from "Ain't Nut'in Personal"

"Mother fucker gonna die tonight"

He could have been freestyling his own rap, based on something he liked?

What does rap have to do with any of this? This was his moment to say something badass and chilling before offing somebody. Something like "Your neighborhood watch has come to an end." Or maybe he could quote a bible verse. That would have been cool. "You're gonna die tonight" does nothing for me, not creative at all.

Just that it's more relevant than the laughable 80's. It was an artist he listed as one of his favorites. Making it not unlikely that 'die tonight motherfucker' was overheard.

That's just how it struck me, it's a very cheesy line. Then again I'm a big fan of hip hop and I'm not familiar with CMurder, so he might not be in the upper echelon of talented MCs. Maybe if Trayvon listened to the Wu-Tang Clan he could have come up with something better.

Witness #3: "He said 'torture, mother fucker. First I'm gonna put a hanger on a stove and let that shit sit there for like half an hour. Take it off and stick it in your ass slow like TSSSSSSS.' But no, he never threatened to kill Mr. Zimmerman."
