Poor choice of words. I was just using 'accused' for generic effect rather than perp, criminal, etc. Is "interactee" a word? I'll use that.

Regardless, weighing your considerations for internet embarrassment vs. civilian oversight that these recordings can provide - it's a no-brainer to me.

In that dog video, I feel badly for the dog that was doing what dogs do, that's the only thing in the video that deserves sympathy. The fault is the idiot dog owner, 100%. Yes, the police may not have been justified in the arrest, but you don't take your dog to a police showdown while being an asshole at the same time.

Are people really confused as to why police don't want to be recorded? Really?

Oh, I think it's pretty damn clear why police don't want to be recorded. I just want to know their "official" reason.

Police don't want to be recorded in order to protect the very people they're harassing. Simple.

What the police should have done is let the owner secure the dog in the vehicle. It was obvious that he (the owner) was not going to put up a struggle with the police.

possibly, but he was already in cuffs, those take a little bit of time to undo. The idiot owner should have rolled up the window when he knew they were coming for him.

Re: The "Cops Behaving Badly" Thread

I'm not sure why the owner drove up in his rental and got out with his dog if it was for no other reason than to provoke a response from the police especially when he already has a legal case pending against the department.

Yeah, I don't think the owner was too concerned about the dog. He may have been hoping for exactly what happened.

I'm pretty darn sure the dog owner planned the whole robbery just to get the police on the street so he could stage this whole dog shooting scenario.

I was outraged when I first heard about this, until I found out the guy with the dog was black and the cops were white.

The guy with the dog should have known better than to record law enforcement officers doing their job and brought it on himself.

The dog was black, too, and a rottweiler...so, that is basically the canine equivalent of wearing a hoodie. He totally asked for it.

Re: The "Cops Behaving Badly" Thread

My bubble was burst about cops when i was around 8 years old and heard 2 cops cursing up a storm. It really made an impression on me at the time as I really looked up to them and never thought they would say or do anything bad.

But it was only when my ex became a cop, and she started telling me about the things that went on, that I really got to see that there are some really bad apples in the bunch.

Re: The "Cops Behaving Badly" Thread

Cops gives a forearm shiver to a cuffed suspect, is fired and charged with assault. Except the judge in the case won't watch the video and finds him not guilty, because she says videos like these should be used to protect the police, not prosecute them with it..I can't even fathom that logic.

Since he's not guilty (), will he get his job back? What an injustice it would be for such an upstanding officer to lose his job.

Was about to say, we have a Cops Being Bad thread, but many of you would be surprised at what our judges are doing across the country. Much of their rulings go unheard and unreported.
