Re: The "Cops Behaving Badly" Thread
I've pretty much been leaning into the anti-cop bandwagon lately, but that was a justifiable shooting in my opinion. He was clearly reaching down his leg at one point, and then into his body several times. Could have easily have had a weapon.

Re: The "Cops Behaving Badly" Thread
The militarization of cops is wrong on every single level and is only justified if you are planning to put down an insurrection. So is what is happening in the US, just different departments all making the same mistake or is there a federal push behind it?
The change of using SWAT for drug raids rather than hostage or serious violent crimes in progress is also idiotic and should be outlawed immediately. No one cares if some bit of drugs is flushed away and the damage done in human terms on these raids is out of all proportion to any societal benefit. These are just common sense actions and I do not understand why it is allowed to go on. |
Re: The "Cops Behaving Badly" Thread
There was a federal push of sorts. The AR-15's came after 9/11 as part of Homeland Security. Very few departments would actually be able to afford the big equipment. Most of that with few exceptions is military surplus.

Louisiana Police Arrest 2 Officers in 6-Year Old Boy's Shooting Death 5 bullets in the kid's body alone. Surprisingly, these officers were arrested due to body cam footage. I highly doubt we'll ever see the footage until after there is a court trial. http://i63.tinypic.com/v4zdp2.jpg |

Looks like they were arrested 3 days after the incident. I may not understand the definition of "immediately" though.
Wonder if the kid would still be alive if Few wouldn't have fled? |

As for the fleeing, I'd be curious to see what kind of vehicle the officers were using before making any judgments since they were operating as marshals and not normal police ie a fully marked police cruiser, or some unmarked random car that doesn't look anything like a police vehicle. |

You are entirely capable of fighting through the pain at that point, and it doesn't cause some sort of cartoon-like flailing. This guy was being hurt every time the taser was applied, but he was not incapacitated, and he was clearly trying to fight through it During the periods when she's not applying electricity (you can hear the clicking sound stop), it is very clear he's not being compliant. At around :37 he starts to reach into his jacket (prompting another round of electricity). If I had seen that, my assumption at that point would be, "he is armed." You can see him reaching down at around the :50 second mark ... while the taser is active (again, not incapacitated)... and trying to pull out one of the wires. If you pause, you can even see the wire in his hand. From about :55 to 1:13, she isn't applying any current whatsoever. He's still trying to crawl away, and he still keeps putting his hands under his body. Wouldn't she stop zapping him and keep the gun trained on him and wait see if he is going to draw a weapon? He's laying on his stomach, is it that much of a risk that he pulls a gun and rolls over and shoots her? |

Women cops, white cops, black cops, as in this video group, are all out to get aggressive against random jaywalkers. |

He's laying on his stomach, is it that much of a risk that he pulls a gun and rolls over and shoots her? B) Yeah, it's a significant risk, because you can get killed faster than you can react by somebody in that position. Force Science did a series of tests of people on their stomach with their hands underneath them, drawing, and shooting, and they determined that there was virtually no chance of being able to react quickly enough. In testing 5 different angles of weapon exposure and attack, FSI researchers discovered that the overall average time that elapses between the instant a prone suspect’s first movement can be seen and the discharge of his pointed weapon is less than 2/3 of a second. |
