Joe, I deleted the link & part of the introductory comments to focus on two things:

(1) First, I agree that it's sad to see any party representative opposing voter turnout from any group ("lower-propensity" or not), even if it's just simple strategic policy. My guess is that private memos of the opposition would reveal that they would do likewise in opposing any measures that would result in higher turnout from voters favoring their opponents, but that's just cynicism. Regardless, the elections should be won on the basis of ideas, not by opposing voter turnout. Ideally, 100% of eligible voters would cast their ballots.

(2) In the future, could you please try to indicate where in the video the item occurs? The attached vid was 19 minutes in length, and I jumped through at various spots before finally landing on the item around the 17-minute mark...and the whole spot lasted maybe less than a minute. It probably took three minutes to locate that one item, and that was almost more of Maddow's pregnant pauses & pen-tapping that I could take (she needs a studio audience to fill the dead air, or have some of the crew laugh, or add some canned music). I have a hard time watching any prime-time Fox or MSNBC anchors for the same reason; their personality quirks & onscreen personas are hard to bear.

No. I like Maddow's style. yes, it's a long 20 min video, and sure, you could just skip to the end to get the meat of it. But while some of it might seem like unrelated fluff, by the time she gets around to her point, it's usually all relevant.

Btw, the reason I included the TLDW (too long, didn't watch) synopsis was specifically for those who didn't want to watch all that

Wow ... When Office Depot cuts you off ... Only in Illinois ...

http://www.nbcchicago.com/blogs/ward...413970443.html

Quote:
Illinois senators were told this week to conserve paper, printer ink and toner after the Senate's office supply vendor stopped accepting orders due to a lack of payment related to the state’s nearly two-year budget impasse, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Kristin Richards, Senate President John Cullerton’s chief of staff, reportedly sent an email Wednesday to senators outlining the situation. “While we have alternative options in place to address immediate needs, it is unclear how long we can make them work,” Richards wrote. “Employees of the Office of the Senate President have been asked to conserve supplies by limiting printing and copying activities, and lean heavily on sharing documents electronically when they are able to do so.”

Although many vital state functions are still being funded through court orders and consent decrees, Illinois’ higher education and social service agencies continue to languish without a full budget. As a result, a growing list of social service providers have already sued the state seeking back payment, the Tribune reports. The list includes the Ounce of Prevention Fund, an early childhood education nonprofit led by Gov. Bruce Rauner’s wife, Diana Rauner.

Gov. Rauner issued his third annual budget address Wednesday, lauding the Illinois Senate’s efforts to formulate a bipartisan “grand bargain” and pushing for a full, balanced spending plan.

Understood. I just like to get it straight from the source, as I've seen too many paraphrases that left out pertinent details that changed the entire slant of the story.

Secretary of State investigation found 385 non-citizens registered to vote in Ohio

Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted announced an investigation has uncovered that hundreds of non-US citizens are registered to vote in the state, and dozens of them voted illegally.

Re: The One and Only Great Moments in State Government thread

Actually, more than that ... That report covers the last three elections. According to that graphic, 82 "non-citizens" voted in 2016.

It says 821 non-citizens were registered to vote, but only 385 were in the 2017 election.

Despite the facts, pretty soon it will be perverted into "half of all illegal aliens voted".

Amazing how this comes out after the directives for immigration enforcement were changed. Now that they are being to directed to deport EVERYBODY, the Ohio SoS culls the voter rolls and refers those individuals to law enforcement. That's convenient. Was this report issued in 2013 and 2015?

If you'd read the article you might get it.

Although I'll admit it was a very tasteless joke.

Oh come on!

I don't need to go to Ohio to rape. According to California law my wife and I have raped each other hundreds of times.

Oh, I read the article, and got the joke, and do agree it's tasteless, and moreover, not that funny.

I just wanted to see if you'd write "I want to go to Ohio so I can legally rape my wife" followed by a winking emoticon.

And now Lincoln is the bad guy. You put your neck out for the brothers and every one turns their back on you.

After reading that, I's say it's an insult to snowflakes to call him one.

He's a douche, but he's a U.S. Representative, not a member of state government.
