That was not ever going to happen, even generally moderate GOPers like Collins and Snowe were opposed to that.

Also, Obama really did not do a lot to sell single payer, he pretty much left the specifics of reform up to Congress. No big speech about single payer, no campaign-style rallies for it, etc. He may have wanted it, but he did not throw himself behind it.

It would have helped more if his own party didn't have dissenters, nevermind the opposition.

When even your own party doesn't fully support you, it's not Obama letting us down, but congress letting us down.

That's one opionion, the other is Congress stopping a bad idea through their own ineptitude.

Re: Rand Paul: Did you fall for it?

To be honest I'm still unclear about the benefits and repercussions of all the various proposals: public option, single payer, and whatever it is that we got.

It makes sense that insurance companies should not have to insure people that are already sick because it's similar to insuring a house after it's burnt down. Insurance is supposed to be an advanced precaution. HOWEVER, if you lose your job then it's not a case of being irresponsible, not to mention people who are born with serious illnesses, etc. I mean, there's many reasons why people would apply for insurance while their sick, vs the people who just wait till something happens.

Also, it's very difficult to get quality insurance unless you're with a union or have some really, really good job. Purchasing it yourself can be pretty costly (but not unreasonable) but you end up getting an HMO with lesser provisions that determine your quality of life.

I really we could have had more discussions on how health insurance works, what's currently available, other countries systems the possible differences between their society and economy, etc rather than just demonizing the other side and rushing into things.

True, Obama didn't let us down. That's why we are out of Iraq, Gitmo is closed, the Patriot Act is a thing of the past, and we no longer get involved in wars that are entirely contained within a country.

Obama (from your perspective) should have let you down by not actually doing anything. He says he wants something, sort of, but no specifics (like healthcare reform) then hopes that congress will bring forth something. Obama does nothing more than present a wish list and hope people recognize him as the chosen one and bring forth something that will appeal to him. What has he actually directed?

Give the man some credit. I'm sure his sports picks changed a lot of betting variables for bookies around the country.
