You ask a lot. What is your opinion? Do you think the pastor is stupid?

I'll answer that question as soon as you answer the question I posed in post #111.

Since I think the New Testament is a piece of fiction, I don't see why it would change my position. He should have the right, but it's still a stupid act.

But you think the Koran is a book of solid history, don't you?

I think either doesn't display a great deal of intelligence.

Yes. Absolutely.

Just asking.

Or burning the US flag. They are pretty quick to do that and have done so numerous times. So I am a touch short on sympathy for the outraged Muslims, but it is pretty stupid. (I'd like to say it sounds like something a raghead would do, only that just sounds wrong)

If any of our members participated in anti-Vietnam war rallies I'm sure they participated in flag burning.

Not many of us were alive during those days.

I don't have the answer as to why she could be involved. wendersfan said she should. I'm just asking why he thinks she should.

Maybe you, a fellow moderator, will answer for him.

I don't think she should. Not only does she have more pressing matters to attend, but it further elevates the stature of the crazed book burner. If nobody would have fallen for his cries for attention, this stunt would not even be known by anybody.

If people are willing to kill over a burned book or a cartoon, the biggest problem is not the burning or the cartoon. Outrage can be expressed in a civilized manner, and is often times warranted.

And yes, the inflammation of this story certainly contributes to the impact it will have.

re: Musulmans and the Occident Part II or Whatever

First of all, I think burning the Quran is very stupid, and completely counterproductive. Quite the opposite, the Quran, and especially its mainstream historical exegesis, should be read and understood by a lot more people so that they can understand that the disproportionate religious violence and repressions of civil liberties in the Islamic world is not some strange, inexplicable coincidence, nor is it the fault of the West.

But the idea that Petraeus mentions this as "dangerous to the mission in Afghanistan" is absolutely ridiculous. This pastor has a congregation of what, 50 people? A symbolic, non-violent, protest-speech act by a miniscule fringe group is really going to threaten our standing in the Muslim world? Like, this is worse than the killing of thousands of innocent Muslims as we've done in Iraq and Afghanistan? But I thought the Muslim world was overwhelmingly moderate, and that they wanted to "live like us"? Do moderates react violently when their religion is insulted? Are so many people really ready to concede that the vast bulk of the Muslim world cannot and will not accept Western notions of free speech?

But really, it just goes to show how far Sharia sensibilities have penetrated into the West, where it's now mainstream for many in the US to fully see Islamic blasphemy laws, and Muslims reacting with violence to "blasphemy", as "regrettable, but certainly understandable".

Since I hold outlandishly hypocritical views, I would actively cheer on Muslims who burn the New Testament. I also think blacks should be allowed to steal from whites without any legal repercussions. Now I suppose you'll claim there is some flaw in my reasoning?

If he never gives an opinion, he can never be challenged, just attack others (usually hypothetical members who don't exist).

The rube has every right to do what he's doing. It's even symbolic like lampooning Mohammed in a cartoon. The Muslim reaction will be insane. But does this jackass really want to stoke THIS flame? This jackass that is sitting somewhere in the backwoods with no fear of retribution?

He's trying to start a Christian-Muslim war. Isn't it obvious? He thinks he's some sort of crusader.
