Can we get those comic con nerds to stage another counter protest? They could burn a bunch of copies of the Phantom Menace.

Well, being regarded as a prophet when your the Son of God is a insult don't you think?

I differentiate the intentions of the two. I don't recall South Park or the Danish cartoonists seriously asserting that "Islam is of the Devil," and trying to pit Christianity agianst Islam.

If this asshat owns copies of the Koran, he should be free to dispose of them however he wishes.
I never said he shouldn't have the right. Those crazy nuts protesting at funerals have that right, but I still don't think they should do it.

I don't see the point in this.
Wouldn't Islam say that killing of innocents is a sin, yet there are Muslim terrorists who do just that.

Would killing all his followers be an insult too? Why do they always advocate it?

Seriously though I think the WBC is not going to get the coverage that Terry Jones would have. WBC is yesterday's nut. Jones was fresh and exciting!

They hold him in such high esteem that they force you to pay a tax just for praying to him...respect goes both ways, right?

Jones is reconsidering the cancellation, claiming he was lied to.

http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/09/09/flo...ex.html?hpt=T1

(CNN) -- A Florida pastor who called off a Quran burning said late Thursday he was "rethinking our position" after a proposed meeting over the location of an Islamic center near New York's ground zero went unconfirmed.

The dramatic development was one of several twists on a day when President Barack Obama and Defense Secretary Robert Gates urged the Rev. Terry Jones to call off the Saturday event, timed for the ninth anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

During the afternoon, Jones canceled his plan to burn copies of the Quran, based on what he said were assurances from a local Muslim leader that the Islamic center in New York would be moved -- an assertion rejected by the center's visionary in New York.

How about this: The guy goes ahead and burns the book. But--and this is the important part--no media outlet covers it! Problem solved, right?

Yes, it sounds perfectly fair:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jizya
Al-Zamakhshari, a Mu'tazili author of a commentary on the Qur'an,[55] said that "the Jizyah shall be taken from them with belittlement and humiliation. The dhimmi shall come in person, walking not riding. When he pays, he shall stand, while the tax collector sits. The collector shall seize him by the scruff of the neck, shake him, and say "Pay the Jizyah!" and when he pays it he shall be slapped on the nape of the neck."[55]
Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi's Chapter Introductions to the Quran states that Muslims were enjoined to tolerate the "misguidance" of non-Muslims "only to the extent that they might have the freedom to remain misguided if they chose to be so provided that they paid Jizyah as a sign of their subjugation to the Islamic State."[56]
Critics often use Jizya as a way to show discrimination in Islamic law. Jizya supporters argue however that it is fair, as Muslims are obliged to pay Zakat[78] (charitable donations) and in the case of Shia Muslims, the Khums Tax[79] (1/5th of one's earnings).[80] In practise however, the Jizya levied on non-Muslims was normally far larger than the Zakat tax on Muslims. Some evidence suggests that the Jizya was typically double the Zakat; for example, the Hedaya[81], an Islamic legal text, declared it lawful to require twice as much of a Zimmee [dhimmi] as of a Mussulman [Muslim]."[82] Refusing to pay both Zakat and Jizya are crimes subjected to imprisonment and punishment[83][84]
Would it be equally fair if the IRS had higher tax rates for certain religions?

It's a property rights issue imo...if they own the property they should be able to do what they want on it whether that is burning or worshiping. The media attention of both groups is silly. Are they trying to make religious tension and spur the looneys in our country to do stupid, hateful acts?

Let's not stereotype or throw everyone in the same suitcase please. Not every follower of Islam would burn the American Flag not every Christian would burn the Koran, and the Bible certainly doesn't condone it. Any Christian using hate in the name of God should look at their own heart and stop judging others. Hypocrites shouldn't be the front men of any group and the only reason the media portrays hypocrites as front men is to give the illusion that the whole group feels the way the hypocrites do.

Blaiming the Koran for 9/11 is like blaming the Bible for the Inquisition/Crusades.

I'm not surprised that people have done bad things claiming support from the Bible. People taking scripture out of context and claiming biblical support for their actions is nothing new. But blame the person and their conviction not the Bible they so selfishly twist to fit their evil desires.

Ecclesiastes 7:8-9 '. . .and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit. Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry, for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.'

Romans 12:19 'Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath, for it is written, Vengeance is Mine, I will repay, saith Yahweh.'

2 Corinthians 11:13-15 'For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel, for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.'

James 4:1-2 'From whence come wars and fightings among you? Come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? Ye lust and have not: ye kill and desire to have, and cannot obtain; ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.'

Matthew 5:44 'But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them which despitefully use you and persecute you.'

Micah 3:10-11 'They build up Zion with blood and Jerusalem with iniquity. The heads thereof judge for reward, and the priests thereof teach for hire, and the prophets thereof divine for money; yet will they lean upon Yahweh and say, Is not Yahweh among us? None evil can come upon us?'

The Lord is not among people that build their nations on the blood of the innocent. The Lord is not among a people that judge unrighteously for money sake, that predict positive outcomes for money sake. In the end, leaders still want thier people to believe, religious or not, that 'God' is on their side. They still want their people to believe, religious or not, that they are a morally decent people who cannot fail.

God's Word teaches to make peace your mission in life. Love your enemies. Turn the other cheek. Forgive. Do everything contrary to the world by denying all the things the world values and treasures and fights for.

I think Ron Paul has the most practical view on the media hype and real issue: we shouldn't paint Islam or any group with a broad brush. Radicals perpetrated 9/11 not Islam.

Also, Gerald Celente the American trend forecaster has a great quote, “You hear someone like General Petraeus saying burning the Koran could be dangerous to American troops – hey General Petraeus – how about invading Arab countries and occupying them and killing innocent people? You think that could be dangerous to American troops? Oh no no, our foreign policy has nothing to do with this – they don’t like Americans because we go to Disneyland and shop at Walmart.”

This isn't news? People are obviously interested in the story, it's sparked a great deal of conversation in this country and got down to some real fundamental rights of our people.

What isn't getting covered that is more worthy? The fact is, if people didn't want to know about it, it wouldn't be news.
