Who is first in line for America's land?

Let's say every single occupant and leader of the United States of America suddenly vanishes... in the rush to fill the void, which country/group do you believe would take control of the territory?

I would say that Canada would likely try to inherit Alaska but be mostly over-ruled by Russia, with the result being the oil-rich land going to Russia and the remainder falling to Canada.

For the vast remainder, I believe that China would make the leap across the pond and hold the West Coast , Hawaii and Midwest largely uncontested. However, European powers would not stand for an outright takeover and would end up securing New England and much of the East Coast. Florida and the states around it would be home to a new Arab state organized by Iran with the support of other nations.

And then there would be peace on earth.

You forgot Mexico. They would reclaim most of the Southwest. Also, they would summarily forget the Alamo.

I didn't forget them. I questioned their resolve compared to the other nations mentioned.

I was initially thinking all. But if you want to present a scenario where the illegals stay behind and actually assert their power that's fine.

Did all the people really just vanish, or are we all zombies now?

The real question is, what happens to the rest of the world as WWIII starts in order to claim parts of the US? For instance, Japan doesn't have it's own military, right?

Finally, somebody takes this question seriously and asks a legitimate question.

Cuba & Russia would split the country & eventually Canada. Then the Russians destroy the Cubans and then expand into Mexico. China would take offense to this and they'd start lobbing nukes at each other & Europe, cause, why not. Israel & the Middle East would destroy each other and Africa would be relatively damage free, but they'd all die if AIDS in 100 years leaving only the Eskimos to repopulate the world.

If he really took this seriously he would realize that all the good Americans will vanish in the rapture. While heathens will remain, they will not be numerous enough to stop the hordes of Canadians and Russians (clearly Canada and Russia will not be strongly affected by the rapture because they are Godless nations).

They have like 30 words for snow, at least the new culture would have a diverse vocabulary.

Canada takes Alaska and actually drills for oil because they know what the tundra actually looks like. Mexico takes the SW and actually drills for oil (and the Gulf of Mexico) becuase they know what it actually looks like. Brazil actually gets a fair amount, and they drill for oil as well. That surprises me. Not that they drill for oil, but that they are so on the ball as to get themselves of stuff.

Tanzania and Qatar -- like there's any room for debate.

I do think India would try to get in on the opportunity as well. That could throw off the "peace" aspect of my prediction.

Native Americans living in other countries would return and claim it. World Court would give it to them.

I don't care. I'll be disappeared, as well just about everyone I ever knew. At that point, it makes no difference to me who gets my old stuff.

I have no idea where my Big Loader is. Maybe in my dad's basement, but probably long gone in some garage sale. So for all I know, it's already in the hands of the Swedes or the Brazilians or whoever.

Whenever I play risk, Euope or South America always takes over North America, so I am going to go with the UK.

But they have to come through Greenland, therefore, the answer is Greenland.
