I'm Ashamed Of Myself This Morning!

Yesterday was primary election day in Oklahoma.

I forgot to vote. It's the first, in my memory, that I haven't voted.

btw: Two women will face off in the governor's race. It's been a long time since a woman has been governor of Oklahoma. It must be the year of the woman.

It's okay, you probably forgot last time too. Next one you miss will be the first, in your memory, that you haven't voted.

Re: I'm Ashamed Of Myself This Morning!

I didn't vote in GA's primary last week. But it was a conscious decision. I wasn't informed of the candidates and didn't care enough to get informed. Plus I don't think the govt should be paying for primaries of parties so it was a small protest against that as well

What a coincidence! I didn't vote in the OK or GA primaries either.

I think I've missed voting once in the almost 30 years I've been eligible.

A lot of people believe the parties should foot the bill.

I also don't belong to a party which doesn't matter much since GA has open primaries. But that makes me feel better about not voting in the primaries

Re: I'm Ashamed Of Myself This Morning!

I've not voted on numerous occasions, sometimes on purpose. In fact, unless there are some ballot initiatives, I doubt I'll be voting in November since there's no Senate race and the Dems always win my area in state/local races and douchebag Moran always wins Congress.

No need to feel shame.

I don't totally buy the argument that 'if you don't vote, don't criticize.'

I do buy a little of it.

I'm sorry to say I'm a bit glad you forgot. Not that I want you disenfranchised, but your thread reminded me to get busy and fill out my absentee ballot and return it. Our primary is next Tuesday.

Is the subject line some sort of sting to get people banned for violating the "no personal attacks" rule?

You know those absentee ballots just get tossed, right?

We've got a bunch of smart asses on this forum. Can't something be done about them?

We could have your Internet disconnected, but I think the other residents of the old folks' home would be pissed that they can't visit their grand children's MySpace page and check out all the hot jailbate.

Not where I live. About 2/3 the voters vote absentee, and the clerk reports by precinct, and a total absentee vote for the township. I just went and checked some previous election results to verify it. We're not Florida, damn it.

I'd never vote by mailing it in to some random location. At least on a machine, there is some chance it gets added in. Seems the absentee ballots only come in to play on a close election.

Re: I'm Ashamed Of Myself This Morning!

I don't vote too often in primary races, mainly because I'm neither a Democrat or Republican. Once in a while a candidate will come along who close enough to my views that I'll vote. I've never missed voting in a general election.

Depends on where you live and the process. I drop it off at the clerk's office because it is only 1 block off "my beaten path." We use the same "darken the circle" ballots used in the precincts, and our clerk counts them by machine. As she posts the absentee results every election, either she really counts them every election, or just makes shit up. If she does the latter, she does it at the precincts too.

But it is clear from reading election coverage that that process is not the case everywhere. It was quite clear when Bush was elected that Florida only counts absentee in close elections (I'm not sure that is true for the whole State, you really have to go clerk by clerk).

The evidence generally supports the theory our local clerk has a robust process, but, admittedly, I haven't audited it.

Since I don't live in the country of my citizenship, I can't vote.
