It's that guy's fault!

Two recent quotes from the fringes of the news have got me thinking about the party of personal responsibility. First, Rep. Tom Tancredo talking to Alan Colmes:

TANCREDO: Now they very well not want to show it because they want to propagate this whole thing that’s going on about birthers. … They may be doing it for that reason; I don’t know why they don’t want anyone to see it. … They want it propagated because you know –

COLMES: It makes your party look nuts!

TANCREDO: Yeah well maybe that’s why they don’t produce document, I don’t know.

Don't blame us for our wacky conspiracy theories! The president is making us act like the tin-foil hat brigade! We have no choice.

Then there's this excerpt from a review of Laura Bush's new memoir:

she writes that she has often wondered if Jacques Chirac of France or Gerhard Schröder of Germany “could have done more” to prevent the Iraq war, “if one of them could have persuaded Saddam to go into exile, if they could have conveyed that the United States was not bluffing.”

So don't blame George Bush for the invasion of Iraq -- blame Jacques Chirac for not convincing George Bush not to invade Iraq!

Chirac was being blamed even before the invasion. France, and probably Chirac himself, was making a lot of money off Iraq in legal and illegal ways. They didn't want Saddam gone.

I think we'll be justified in blaming Russia and China (not to mention some European countries) if Iran's nuclear facilities are bombed as well.

But I think you're missing JasonF's point----it's not notable when the Dems do it, because they're not claiming to be the party of personal responsibility.

Re: It's that guy's fault!

So if you're a member of "the party of personal responsibility", it follows logically that nothing is ever anybody else's fault?

If the things in the OP got the poster "thinking about the party of personal responsibility", it didn't get him thinking about it very hard.

Yes, that is exactly what I am saying. You get an A+ on reading comprehension!

Surely I'm not the only one who thinks that the two quotes I highlighted represent Herculean efforts to shift the blame for something to someone who isn't really responsible?

Chirac was a micro-blip on the terrorism radar.

Of course, it's a minor footnote the US actually enabled Saddam (oh we trained the infamous evil man Osama too) and kept him in power which allowed France and other countries to make some quick cash off the situation.

I still think the US & its leaders look more retarded, regardless. Republicans need to step up and take responsibility instead of acting exactly like the Liberal Party they continue to point at.

You have to ask yourself. Did Chirac have the authority to keep Saddam in power? I kinda doubt it. It was the US. We fed him, schooled him, just like other people we now call terrorists. Hell, we're grooming unknowns right this very minute. And speaking of...

The only question I have is this. Who's the next motherfucker the US Government will train who will actually wipe out an entire American city.

Maybe then the US will stop playing both sides and stop taking the lesser road of irresponsibility.

I'm sorry. Your citing INCREDIBLY minor accusations told me that you had no leg to stand on and just felt like starting a thread bashing Republicans.

You said that these statements got you thinking. About what, exactly? Share with us the fruits of your cognition.

"Man, those are two incredibly lame attempts to shift the blame for bad behavior away from the responsible party -- and in the case of the Hunter quote, to shift the blame directly to the party that is being harmed by the bad behavior. I think I'll start a thread at DVD Talk so I can share these quotations with everyone else. I don't really have anything else to say about them, but they are too funny not to share. Might as well throw in a cheap shot at the Republicans while I'm at it. I wonder how many posts it will be before one of the righties on the forum brings up the fact that President Obama says that he inherited a lot of problems?"

Turns out it was three posts.
