What is Trig Palin really named for?

I did a quick search and didn't see this interesting fact pop up.

The official story from Sarah Palin is that Trig Palin is named for the Norse word meaning "strength."

Everyone knows Trig has Down syndrome, but interestingly enough in the medical community it is referred to as Trisomy G, often shortened by doctors to Tri-G.

What's your take on the name: unfortunate coincidence or did Palin really name her child after the disorder he suffers from.

Re: What is Trig Palin really named for?

Could be play on both, but Norse would be Trygg and that doesn't mean strength. Who cares?

Re: What is Trig Palin really named for?

Could be both. We all know that those born with that disorder are also blessed with superhuman strength.

Is there a syndrome that doctors abbreviate Tho-R? :(

I've never heard it referred to as such by the medical community. Do you have any evidence, aside from stupid blogs, this is the case?

This is a Merck link referring to Down Syndrome as Trisomy G, but no mention of the common "Trig" abbreviation of same.

More absurd conjuring from the left over this woman, on the matter of her handicapped kid. Shameless.

I remember in college Trisomies being referred to as Tri- for short by students.

I believe it was made up by some piece of shit asshat blog writer who fancies himself a real journalist and then spread like manure through the rest of the blogosphere and picked up by those predisposed to 1.) read and believe blogs and 2.) irrationally and dementedly hate Mrs. Palin.

Of course I am not a doctor and this could be quite common. However, what is more likely, that the medical community refers to it as Down Syndrome and Mrs. Palin picked the name Trig for whatever other reason. Or that Down Syndrome is referred to as the ever so much shorter and easier to say TRI-G and that the Palins were aware of this before their child was born and used that name?

Oh, I can't imagine the name and the condition are related. I don't know if you're interpreting my posts as saying that. I have no clue if it's shortened in that manner, and even if it was I don't think that's why she named her kid that.

I wasn't interpreting them in that manner, merely using your last post since it was last.

I thought it had long been established that the Palins named their youngest child based on Todd Palin's love of the study of the relationships between the sides and the angles of triangles.

I just checked. Andrew Sullivan has not blogged about this earth-shattering topic.

Tryggr is "loyal" or "true" in Old Norse.

Regardless of our personal political beliefs, I think we can all agree on one thing: Trig is a terrible name.

I wasn't referring to a specific asshat in my post, rather the whole lot of them.

However, it appears that sullivan did.

I stand disgusted. I mean corrected.

Actually, I was right the first time. It never ceases to amaze me how someone as smart as Andrew Sullivan can buy into the most ludicrous, crackpot theories.

According to a People article from April 2008, Trig was named after his great uncle.
