Re: 2010 House Elections

I'd forgotten about that.

I believe she did vote for the original Senate bill.

btw: She made the right decision on the final bill. I would have voted against it too.

Watch her own campaign commercial in post 249 where she brags about voting against Obama.

Re: 2010 House Elections

She's fighting for her political life. What in the hell do you expect to do - praise Obama. She's running in a state that doesn't have a very high approval rating for Obama.

And, she voted with the Democratic majority in the last congress 90% of the time.

Re: 2010 House Elections

Well, don't let the door hit her on the way out. Instead of fighting for her political life, how about having some integrity on the way out. I'm surprised she didn't say "cap and tax" or mention the "lamestream media."

Re: 2010 House Elections

What do you want in a senator - someone who has their nose so far the president's ass that they can't see for shit?

Do you want a senator who never takes account what the people of his/her state want?

Trust me, you don't. That would just mean twice the number of calls.

I've been a respondent in two separate polls this week.

Re: 2010 House Elections

I think the handwriting is on the wall in OK.

We currently have a Democratic governor - a Democratic lt. gov. - & a Democratic Attorney General.

After 11/3 - each of the above jobs will be held by Repubs.

The Democrats have just given up.

Re: 2010 House Elections

If it's as bad for the Democrats as many say, do you think there will be a number of them switching parties?

I think there might be a couple of Blue Dogs who just might switch.

Given the current direction of the GOP, they probably won't be ideologically pure enough to be successful Republicans.

Re: 2010 House Elections

We have a "blue dog" Democrat in my district (Jim Matheson). The opposition's campaign slogan is (literally) "Matheson = Pelosi".

Re: 2010 House Elections

Not all blue dogs are Blue Dogs.

Loretta Sanchez is a member of the Blue Dog Coalition.

She's further left than CRM114 - & that's pretty far left.

Re: 2010 House Elections

Here is an op-ed I just ran across; thought it might interest you, c-man.

Boot the Blue Dogs

I can't say I agree with the basis of the argument, but it's an interesting take on it.

Re: 2010 House Elections

while liberal Democrats have howled that their majority is being hijacked by a rogue group of predominantly white men from small rural states.

How is sentiment like that any different from the "real America" type sentiment of Palin? Is there something wrong with them being from rural states? Also, why does race matter at all?

If the Dems push the Blue Dogs out, doesn't that just shrink their numbers? If they can't get a majority of the vote with the liberal members out of the present big tent, how will they get a majority out of a small tent?

Re: 2010 House Elections

The term Blue Dogs has lost much of its signficance, IMO. A number of the so-called Blue Dogs aren't conservative in anything.

Return to the days of yesteryear - Boll Weevils. That term really meant something.

Re: 2010 House Elections

It would be interesting if the Democrats did remain in control of the House to see who the speaker would be.

A guy for Politico the other day said that 19 Democratic members of the House had publically said they won't vote for Pelosi for speaker again.

Hmm! A Democratic majority and a Republican speaker.

Even more interesting - speaker who is not a member of the House.

Re: 2010 House Elections

Why would Pelosi be replaced if the Dems retain the house? That would be stupid.

Re: 2010 House Elections

Pelosi has been the most effective speaker I've seen in a long time. You may not agree with what she's done, but you can't deny how effective she's been.

Even if the Democrats retain the majority, it's going to paper thin. She won't be nearly as effective as she was.

Re: 2010 House Elections

So because of that, you replace her with a male from Tennessee? Let's face it, the only reason people hate her is because she's a rich woman from San Francisco.

I'm a little surprised that the ND race is so close, I thought Pomeroy would win easily.

Re: 2010 House Elections

Get outta here!

That's not the only reason (not even the principal one) that many dislike her.

With a very small majority, you replace her with someone who is not so divisive - someone who can better work with the Repubs, because it would be definitely necessary if anything was to be done. The president, who probably does want something done, might just intervene - probably not publically, but intervene nevertheless.

Re: 2010 House Elections

She's divisive because she's a liberal woman from San Francisco. She's not doing anything outside of Obama's agenda. What is she doing that is so horrendous? Having a spine?

You don't watch CSPAN much, do you?

If you did, you would know.

If she had a spine, she'd come out in favor of Prop. 19. Her opponent runs to the left of her on issues like that.

Re: 2010 House Elections

Lots of codgers don't support Prop 19. Hell, Jerry "Governor Moonbeam" Brown doesn't even support it. It's political death UNTIL it passes.
