Do you think the Founding Fathers would approve or disapprove of how things
are going in Washington these days?

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010...ve-washington/

15% of Democrats, 5% of Republicans and 8% of independent voters say "approve."

I think Jefferson would be appalled that we're not all still farmers.

I guess my point is that I don't really care if they'd approve.

If Bill and Ted took the Founding Fathers on an excellent adventure to the present, and then brought them back to their time, what changes/clarifications do you think they'd make with the Constitution?

None. They'd just buy 98% of the politicians in DC and the federal judiciary reading glasses.

I think they'd be too mesmerized by internet porn to focus on the Constitution at all.

(and I just have to comment on my "Top 50 Conservative Rock Songs" thread---dang, I even posted several times in that original threat several years ago. I guess the memory is the first thing to go.)

Of course they wouldn't. Look at the way we treat minorities, women, gays, etc. Outrageous!

They'd immediately attempt to start another revolution.

I think it'd be awkward to meet a re-animated Founder. Like a father walking in on his son while he (the son) is trying on women's underwear. Unspoken disappointment would hang in the air like the stench of shit, but, geez, Dad, lighten up -- we're just experimenting a little!

So they would disapprove, but I don't think they would be surprised.

This.

You can't govern a modern post-industrial nation of 300 million people the same way you could a collection of agrarian semi-independent states? Who da thunk it?

I think they'd be pleased that their experiment in democracy has succeeded beyond their wildest expectations with peaceful transfers of power for 220 years.

I think that is very true. But I think they would be disgusted with how many aspects of our lives the government is involved in and how much power the Feds have compared to the states.

I think they would have thrown up over the Kelo case in the SCOTUS, but there are likely a lot of things from there that would make them hurl.

I'm not sure they would care one way or the other. Adams and Jefferson would be duking it out on xbox live while a 12 year old calls Jefferson the N word all day. Benjamin Franklin, once he discovered free porn and Vegas, would be busy inventing a $7,000 sex robot. Washington would not be pleased and would probably punch each of them in the face. But he too would find distraction as soon as he donned 3D glasses and cried his way through Avatar.

Those fellas really are put on a pedestal at certain times and by certain people aren't they. Part of America's creation myth I guess..

I think the thing that they would be most upset with is the power of the regulatory agencies.

Maybe Hamilton wouldn't be all that upset.

Re: Do you think the Founding Fathers would approve or disapprove of how things are g

Jefferson would be pissed that organized religion influences so many political agendas.

Hamilton would be surprised we didn't switch to a monarchy.

John Adams would be incredulous that we were such tight allies with the Brits.

Franklin would have no comment as he was busy in Las Vegas whore houses.

Stephen Hopkins would be too drunk to notice that anything had changed.

Actually, Jefferson probably wouldn't make the reunion. When a man dies that deep in debt, it's in his best interest to stay dead for a very long time.
