Were you around when Truman & Eisenhower were president?

No, but I didn't say that anyway. I don't think she's particularly bright, but I will readily admit that not having even met her, let alone having spent time with her, I have no way of knowing for sure. To put what Tommy is saying another way, one thing I do know is that she doesn't present herself as someone who thinks intelligence or intellectual curiosity is important or valuable.

Is that a requirement for directly responding to a statement you make about them? If so I will reference Ipods and Vampire Weekend in all my posts so that you are not allowed to respond.

I don't what her IQ is, and neither does anyone else on this forum.

There are some very bright people who don't have a knowledge of world events.

Do they do jobs that require knowledge of world events?

Wouldn't you believe a person who aspires to the office would know how many states there were?

Your comparing a slip of the tongue with the fact that a grown woman had no idea about the Korean War or who was behind 9/11?

Then again, Palin was not alive in 50-51 so according to you she SHOULDN'T know about the Korean War. Only what is directly experienced is knowable.

One would assume that a candidate would know that his uncle helped liberate Buchenwald, and not Auschwitz (unless that uncle was in the Red Army.)

I'll argue that Harry Truman was hardly an intellectual, but I think he made a pretty good president.

Eisenhower was certainly not an intellectual. Some argue that he made a pretty good president.
If the public had wanted an intellectual as the Republican standard bearer in 1952 they would have chosen another 5 star general.

I'll take common sense over intellectualism any day for a president.
Do you think either Truman or Eisenhower lacked the kind of knowledge that Palin does?

Let's face it, it doesn't sound as impressive. He knew, but was comfortable with the misstatement.

It's all relative. Perhaps she's an excellent writer. But if the areas you are "dumb" at include not knowing the difference between North and South Korea or not knowing that Iraq was not behind 9/11 is something that *I* would personally require in any President. Perhaps you do not.

Do they include whether a president should bow to foreign leaders? I think that was very dumb. Especially trying to shake hands at the same time.

Re: Is Sarah Palin going to be our next President?

That's tough. If she were the nominee and the alternative was 4 more years of Obama, I'd vote for her. But I'd vote for anyone that was running against Obama next time. Not even a question.....except possibly McCain.

Obama may have both Republican houses by election time. So Palin may not win as a tea bag candidate.

Re: Is Sarah Palin going to be our next President?

A McCain run would be intriguing. 4 years older. My guess is he would attempt to run a more principled campaign as he began with the last time around. And then die.

He was no more principled this time than when he ran against Bush. He's a loon.

I don't think that's a fair poll, as far as I am concerned. I would vote for her if she were the Republican nominee. It's doubtful I would vote for her in the primary, mostly because I would hope there would be a candidate who stood a better chance against Obama.

I think that he is more principled than many of his comrades, and has the voting record to (mostly) back that up. He sucks at presidential elections, to be sure.

Also, you probably haven't heard this yet, but McCain was actually a POW in Vietnam. I think he could use that next time around.

I admire what he went through, but it likely isn't what made him suck.

That could be a "Maybe" I suppose. I was more thinking about the general election though, not primaries, so I clarified the poll question.
