The 2008 U.S. Presidential election "debate" thread

In case there is a debate, let's discuss it here, OK?

The time: 26 September 2008 - 2100 EDT
The place: Gertrude C. Ford Center in Oxford, Mississippi, on the campus of the University of Mississippi
The moderator: Jim Lehrer (PBS)

http://www.olemiss.edu/debate/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_..._debates,_2008

And I thought I'd throw this in:

All because his face was brown
Better get away from Oxford Town

Oxford Town around the bend
He come in to the door, he couldn't get in
All because of the color of his skin
What do you think about that, my frien'?

Me and my gal, my gal's son
We got met with a tear gas bomb
I don't even know why we come
Goin' back where we come from

Oxford Town in the afternoon
Ev'rybody singin' a sorrowful tune
Two men died 'neath the Mississippi moon
Somebody better investigate soon

Oxford Town, Oxford Town
Ev'rybody's got their heads bowed down
The sun don't shine above the ground
Ain't a-goin' down to Oxford Town

Thread title is wrong. A certain word needs to be in " ".

I'm surprised that we haven't heard claims that Obama and McCain are the greatest debaters since Lincoln and Douglas from each of the opposing campaigns yet.

Well I expect our Obama fans in the forum to think that about Obama.

I'm referring to the age-old practice of inflating the debating skills of the opponent to create high expectations of your opponent (and lower expectations for your own guy).

(Just to make c-man happy and "confirm" his suspicions):

Obama is not the greatest debater since Lincoln and Douglas, Clarence Darrow is. Obama is the second greatest.

So if an agreement is not reached on the bailout does his attending make McCain appear weak?

After all he said he wouldn’t and then backed down once Obama said he would be going even if McCain didn’t show up.

What percentage of the voters do you believe these 'debates' are aimed at?

Do you believe, unless there's a major gaffe made, that it will influence the 'percentage' that it's aimed at?

I agree with you. The debates are media events and unless there is a major gaffe there won't be any change in opinion.

Haven't young voters already made up their minds?

I thought they were firmly in the Obama camp.

Whether McCain shows or not - I will not be watching.

I believe the last presidential debate I watched was in 1992.
Those actually had some interest.
